Hey Folks! Just took delivery of my bike I will post picture when I recover from my trip in meantime I'm wondering why there is a fairly audible gear whine when you're in 2nd gear and when you shift to 3rd it gets less and 4th onwards its not there. Is this the common trait of the bike?do all you 02 R1 owners have this?or is this because its not run in yet,its only got 20km on it.Please advice,I'm kinda worried.

They all do it, I noticed mine and thought it was a little loud so I asked a buddy of mine who's a career bike mechanic. He said they all do it (he owns a 02 R1) b/c the gears aren't fully meshed when it's at lower speeds and not under any stress. When you're giving it the throttle the opposite happens and it's quieter. I don't have the gear noises when riding aggressively so this seems to be true.

Listen to any Honda VFR 750/800 and you'll hear lots of cam gear noises.

Phew! thats a relief..I thought I got the freak one with a gear box problem. The funny thing is,I've got a friend who has got one a week earlier and I asked him if he noticed this and you know what? he is not sure...why?cause the son of a ..... does not ride it....he is so over careful with it that he is actually afraid to ride it too much....yeah.....I think he needs profesional help too.anyway, this gear whine thing is surely not too pleasant to listen too, maybe cause I'm not used to it.I noticed that its really loud in 2nd and it tapers off as you shift to 3rd....ah well.....maybe after the run in.

Thanks for reminding me Marc,I'll try and do that. So, do you also have that whine in your gears? How does the Akra sound?did it really improve the performance?do you have a PC111 to go with it or you didn't need one?
