Insurance was designed for the purpose of protecting you from loss; clearly this individual met those requirements and was subsequently reimbursed for such loss. That said, why such angst toward premiums?

Are you suggesting that the individual should cover the loss himself, rather than be afforded the protections of insurance he was entitled too? Accidents happen, hence the reason why the insurance industry flourishes.

IMO, if you can’t afford the insurance, then don’t ride; the increase in premium prices are part of our sport and subject to varied skill levels. Do you actually believe that an individual considers the cost of a premium increase at the moment of impact? Not to mention the residual trickledown effect that will occur throughout the industry? Accidents do and will happen, they are not personal vendettas toward the cost of your insurance premium!

That is a good pay-off. The main thing is that your wife continues to improve. Of course, the money will permit you to get out from under the payments for a bike you no longer have.

Increase in premiums, huh? Well, I concur. My buddy totalled his Gixx 1K two weeks ago. State Farm cut him a check for $10,600 and is paying for all his gear. He spoke with them today and asked specifically about a premium increase. No increase at all, directly from the horse's mouth. It's not until he totals two, maybe three more bikes will they drop him. No rate increase in the forseeable future for this bike. Now, if he totals another one, that may be a different story but as for now, $72 a month, just like before...
