Was running late to work, truck is acting up so I rode the bike.
Anyway was doing 86 in a 55.

State Trooper like flipped out on me... was like take your key out and throw it on the concrete. (never been asked to do that)
He was going to take me to jail! The only thing that saved me was he asked where I was going in such a hurry. I told him I am a teacher and am late to school.

He still gave me a 278.00 ticket and he said it was 4 points on my liscence.

If I take the Drivers Course how many points does it take off?

:(

What shakie said. When I got my ticket I could'nt go to court for obvious reasons so I took the drivers course on the internet (also for obvious reasons). But 86 in a 55 aint sheot. Definately nothing to jump up and down for. BTW, he could'nt have taken you to jail for it either. If he said that he was full o' sheot. He did'nt give you any break at all you got the full force of the hammer. A break would have been citing you for violation of a traffic control device which would have cost you 75.00 and 3 points. He hammered you good. The friggin bastid. ( Not because he did his job but because he lied telling you he cut you a break when he knew he did'nt.)

Gotta qualify the jail thingy. In order to take someone to jail for wreckless driving the officer must articulate that a driver placed other vehicles safety in jeapordy. However that articulation is'nt enough to stand alone for a conviction. The officer must also have sworn written statements from witnesses stateing that they were endangered by the arrestees actions. In other words you need a victim in order to support the charge and subsequent arrest. Not saying it cant be done but when it is the cases are treated as cured by arrest without ever having gone to trial. This is because the state knows the charges are bogus yet they use the arrest to generate funds by levy of fines and court cost.

I asked the school resource officer, and he said same thing... not a jailable offense. I think I will just take the driver course online and pay the money. Thanks for the advice guys.

FHP can be a pain in the behind. :fact I know most of them in my
area since they use our range for qualifying. Still, If I know they
are in the area and I'm on my bike I'll keep it near the speed
limit.

 Could'nt wait and ask me eh? :lol Only bad thing about the online school is that I could have been done with it in about 20-30 good minutes but it won't let you proceed until you've waited a set amount of time. And it keeps asking stupid questions to verify who you are. Still sucks you met up with a jerkoff who tried to bullsheot you.

hey solidus

I read what you said about the guidelines necessary for arrest, but is there any point in which one is automatically taken to jail for excessive speed.....say 170mph or so?

I got a 83 in a 55 but the DPS officer was fairly friendly. I even alluded to the fact that a few seconds before he showed up I was going even faster. He laughed and said "I appreciate your honesty". I went to court, talked with the DA, and got 6 months probation, defensive driving class, & pay the full ticket ($150 or so...I think). A few months later I ran into him at a Chevron station. I chatted for a minute with him, he recognized the bike and remembered the stop. Got an Escort 8500 now...I won't be giving him any more autographs...I hope.

It stays the same but I'm pretty sure they'd make you take the ride just for kicks. BTW this is only for the fla. statutes. I just hate when I see people go to jail here on that one because it's such a stretch. Not saying that sometimes there are'nt people who deserve it but it's more often used as a threat. When people don't know any better then it makes for a food one but it's al just a bag of hot air. Thing is , if I take someone to jail for say ......disorderly conduct. The elements of the crime are unruly behavior which outrages or draws a crowd. I have to be able to articulate how the crowd was outraged , or agitated. I can either get statements from people in the crowd or be able to say that for example : a crowd of people began fighting and it was because of the arrestee's behavior. So if you were doing 170 (in Fla. ) and cars were swerving to avoid , and someone called police to report a bike like yours driving wrecklessly , then yes I might be able to arrest you for it but it'll be ganked at the state attourney's and ruled cured by arrest. Basically = "That is all , you can go now.". I don't know NY traffic law but most states are pretty similar. The ones that do differ can differ by a longshot so look up your states wreckless statute's before trying a run on the GW bridge.

Here goes for you floridians.....

Recckless driving FS 316.192 (1) Any person who drives any vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property.

So proof that the person is in disregard of persons or property would be that you do a knack knack stand up beside some family's mini van. ( Gotta get a statement from the people in the mini van). Or (perish the thought ) you riding along kicking peoples mirrors off. No where in the statute does it say anything about the simple act of speeding which is covered in another statute

Got nailed for 111mph in a 65. $270 fine. Went to the tag office and said I was going to take the driving course and the fine was reduced to a $240 processing fee. Spent $29.95 on a 4 hour internet course that forced you to take at least 4 hours to complete (go ahead ask me how) and went back to the tag office to turn in my grad cert. No points, no insurance impact, just a permanent record that I took a driver's course. 1 course within 12 months, 5 per lifetime you know. Adjudication withheld. Beautiful words........:fact

If you take the AAA course it cost $85 if your not a AAA member $65 if you are. You get 2 points off your DMV record(not insurance points). Also you if you have less than 4 points on your license then you also qualify for a discount from most insurance companies. This depends on your company.

It is a 6 hour course. I spent last Saturday sleeping through it.

This is for NJ...so where you are from may differ, but AAA is all over the US.

Also, plea the ticket at least to a careless driving, which is 2 points in NJ. The reason is most courts are backed up and if you the judge an prosector can get through your case quick(to get to something serious) and get a nice donation to the court $200 or so, you can get these things knocked down or off(sometimes).

Good luck though.

What do you guys know about NOT stopping to get your punishment? There are a lot that just hit it and so far I have never heard of anyone getting caught. What are the consequences? And where do I go to find out if a particular state, county or city has a no-chase law? Thanks!
