I just got the call from my dealer. My 04 will be ready tomorrow morning.

The truck arrived at the dealership today with my silver R1 in its crate. They're going to uncrate it and such tomorrow morning. It should be ready for me by 10AM.

Just a few more hours of patience and I'll have that silver beauty.

Got the bike this afternoon. Wasn't able to get over to the dealer during the morning, but I did trailer it home with enough time to ride this evening.

I've managed to find enough time today to get about 60 miles on her.

Wow! This bike really handles well. So light and agile, it blows my mind. Seating position is more aggressive than I am used to, but not uncomfortable. The reach to the bars is short, if lower than my last bike. The seat is hard though. I might be looking for a replacement seat before taking any long rides.

With only 60 miles, I haven't really sampled the power yet. But even with a light throttle hand, this bike can get up and go. Once broken in, this is going to be awesome.

Keeping the RPMs low and not staying in one gear too long is limiting my sense of the bike's potential.

I've already swapped the oil. Which isn't to say that I am doing the Mototune method. I'm planning to more closely follow the factory procedure. But the idea of changing the oil really early sounds good to me.

Diamond, I used the Yamaha oil. YamaLube 4, I think it is called. It is just regular dino oil. I don't know that I'll ever switch to synthetic.

Redbanksbound, my bike was definitely worth the wait. When my wife saw it this evening, she said it was quite possibly the best looking motorcycle she'd ever seen. I tend to agree, but then I do have a somewhat biased opinion. ;)

I've taken the side reflectors off already. And the stickers on the tank. I also installed the Graves frame sliders and Graves swingarm spools/sliders. Next on the list is to cut back the mud flap in the rear. I think I'll leave the turn signals alone, but the mud flap is going to shrink.

The stock exhaust really sounds good on these bikes. I know that sounds weird to say, but it is really true. I know that the aftermarket systems will be louder and maybe even deeper. But these stock pipes sound great to me. Rumbles nicely, howls at higher RPMs, gurgles a bit under engine braking, but is quiet enough to avoid making the neighbors pissy.
