This is the story from NESBA

During this morning's 2nd practice round, two of my racing buddies were involved in the incident that shut the track down for the remainder of the morning.

Rick Young (Clubman Ex #99, last year's MA Clubman Nv champion) and Tom Doherty (LWT Nv #100) were following each other around the track, and somehow got tangled up in Turn 6. As far as I know there were no reliable eyewitnesses, so we don't know what precipitated the crash. What we do know is that Rick Young ended up laying in the track with both bikes on top of him, and Tom Doherty impacted the wall to rider's right.

Rick was knocked unconscious and was transported to the hospital. He suffered from a mild concussion and some bruises and abrasions. As a result of the concussion injury he does not remember anything of what happened.

Tom was killed instantly.

Tom is survived by his wife and two children. No word yet on funeral arrangements or other such details.

P.S. All of Tom's racing friends would like to thank the WERA officials, especially Tony Pentacost, for their help and support while we dealt with the situation as it unfolded.

My thoughts and prayers are with Tom and his family
:(

I hate to hear of something like this. Be careful out there fellows.

I lost two friends last year to racing, Trent Policky (C Superstock Novice #184) Died At CMP Turn 4 (his brother was 3 bikes behind him when it happened) he lowsided and was ran over by a following rider. And Bryan Cassell (AKA MightyDucRacing) who I only met a couple of times, but really liked/respected the guy. He passed at Daytona during the CCS Races there last year.

It always sucks to see a fellow rider die doing what we all love to do. I just hope that his family makes it through this difficult time, and hope that his last moments were spent doing what he loved and not fearing what was about to happen. RIP Brother

:( I think there has been another post on this. It is very sad news and my prayers go out to his friends and family...

I think I'm often guilty of having a false sense of "safety" on the track... It is not as dangerous as the street, but you still have to be careful out there... Riders get hurt and even killed on the track as well...

Damn that sucks.

I'm thinking that is turn 6 also....You cut up the hill to the right instead of going straight.......the pavement has a break in the transition.......but what wall ???.........surely they didn't roll up the straight into the overpass......if so, DAMN !!

RIP :(
