After reading the reviews over the last few weeks in Sport Rider
and Motorcyclist on the new liter bikes the Honda takes the cake
for the heaviest liter bike of 04. Coming in at 396 dry compared to
375 for the ZX-10R and 379 for the R1. Damn, that's nearly 20
LBS of extra weight to haul around for a completely redesigned
bike. Plus, it came in 26 pounds heavier than last years 954. Of
course Honda is telling the magazines the bike handles more like
a 600 with all the new changes and the extra weight will not be
noticed. Guess we will see.

Yeah when it was just introduced, Honda already mentioned about their weight being heavier than their competitors. But their engineers said they gave up the weight to creats something more balanced, that was their main goal.

heavy

Honda has calculated the weight very exactly...after removing lights, blinkers, horn etc and taking carbon fairing and titanium exhaust system they can reach Superbike weight limit 163 kg...

Just imagine...honda has indeed serpentine headers in standard exhaust system now..this will add torque and power...the exhaust system is totally made from stainless steel because of this very special shape...earlier the exhaust system was made from titanium but in this case it would be too expensive for stock bike...But for competition you can easily save few kilos just by replacing the stainless exhaust system...
