I'm re-posting this, since I realized the other one went into the "for sale" section...sorry - (swedie, please delete my other post, if you can - didn't mean to dupe)

Ok - This is fresh in:

First, YES you lucky west coasters HAVE gotten the bike in - A happened to speak to a shop owner in (yes, you guessed it) Arizona, where they had already received in 4 machines since satruday- 3 spoken for by customers, 1 owned and halfway broken in my the owner. here's what he had to say:

1) The F.I. is flawless - the best feeling carbeuretion hes ever felt...While the Gixxer has that imfamous abrupt kick, that everyone just loves, the R1's throttle is absolutely instantaneous - NO hesitation and GOBS of power ready to go the second you hit the throttle. It DOES like to loft the front tire, but this is inherent in having this much power -- Unlike the suzuki, where the abrupt punch might give you an unexpected lift, the R1's linearity does like to send the front end high, but it is predictable. The guy couldn't say enough about the FI.

2) The handling is the other big feature which makes the bike amazing: The owner rode an '01 champ's edition with aftermarket suspension parts dialed in to perfection...The 02 supposedly handled just as well bone-stock and untouched as the dialed in aftermarket '01 handled- largely a product of the geometry revisions and weight shifts.

3) Aside from the FI, the engine is mostly the same as last years, and despite little changes in the ergos, it pretty much feels very very similar to last years R1...so the bottom line is no surprise - just like we expected, the R1 is that much closer to perfect, and likely the BOTY once again - Bravo Yamaha.....

...............Now just hurry up and deliver them to the East coast!!!!

Why can't we be friends?

Carbs, F.I., whatever........... as long as it still has that wrist to motor reostat delivery that is one of the motors trademarks. I'm sure they did the FI for emmissions and such, and no doubt there's probably already a power commander made to remap everything.......... sigh......... I keep thinking, " They CAN"T make them much better than this " and then they do it............ amazing, what a GREAT TIME to be a sportbike Junkie!!

Oh man I was not meaning to harsh on Scud,I thought the dealer said that. I was a little worried that a dealer would say that. I think the write up was great and informative. Again no offense to anyone ;)

I don't much about carbs but they did say something about carbs and fuel injection in one of the mags. Here is what they said.

Yamahas scheme for achieving smooth throttle take-up is different than anything that we have seen. (And all where doing is seeing it in a photo’s) It's throttle bodies wear tops just like the ones on constant-velocity carburetors. Seems like an ingenious, proven, and less complex solution than the various ones other manufactures have employed to combat the dread snatchy throttle take up. CV-carb smoothness combined with injections immediate accuracy could make for a very good marriage theoretically.

Twisted

I'm gonna have to play around and learn to use these little smiley faces and what not. I would have had one of those winky guys after my last post. I laughed at your post. I'm a plumber, so it's the same as referring to a " hot water heater " , say what? It's like a double negative, ie " he died dead " whatever............... NEVER assume that I'm doing anything but joking if I post like that. I have a lot of respect for a lot of you guys on this site, 'specially a guy that makes his living spinning wrenches. :) ( I'll experiment with the icons soon, just don't laugh )

car·bu·ret (kärb-rt, -rt, -by-)
tr.v. car·bu·ret·ed, or car·bu·ret·ted car·bu·ret·ing, or car·bu·ret·ting car·bu·rets or car·bu·rets
To combine or mix (a gas, for example) with volatile hydrocarbons, so as to increase available fuel energy.

That little hole on the side of your bong is called a carburator too. :crash

Smoke Eater...

Thank you for explaining..."carbeuretion" meaning the atomization of fuel - in other words, the FI does a perfect job at atomizing the fuel- seriously, the bike is awesome...;)

Ugh...I hate waiting!!! Sucks to be here on the east coast. We don't even see the silver ones until mid-March (at least according to my dealer). I put the deposit on it today. The other guy there said that for a deposit today it'd be sometime in April, but the guy I work with there told me not to worry about it and that I'd bump somebody. Probably because I told him that if he had it today, I'd write him a check today. And I REALLY wish he did have it now.

WAITING ??

Ladies and gents...

If you will look back to some previous posts, you will realize that I placed a deposit in NOVEMBER to ensure that there would be a liquid silver for me to ride this year.
I definitely understand your impatience!

October, here. I'm starting to get wood after hearing about all these bikes being delivered. Too much snow to ride, but I don't care. Seeing that they are starting on the West coast and moving East, I'll be the last one to take delivery.

September here. I haven't been able to ride the '99 for a month again due to snow here in northern MN. I am looking forward to riding a new bike again. The '99 is getting to feel quite worn.
