As I have mentioned before. I have no fuel gauge on the R1 RN19 and I installed a fuel gauge today.

Tools/parts needed:

Koso Fuel gauge item no. SKU: BA003250
Yamaha FJR1300 fuel pump assembly (used) part no. 5JW-13907-21
Philips/JIS screwhead driver
Allen key 5mm/ratchet
Fuel catch tank/fuel (5gallon) can with funnel
Wiring and clamping

First remove the seat (2bolts 10mm)
Second remove the fuel tank. Four bolts, front one side two plus trims philips one bolt behind
Disconnect the vent hoses, fuel line and plugs.
Siphon all gas out or use a fuel line to pump it empty.

Using this guide (thanks to Fjorn) I found the switch 12V+ in the wiring loom.

Remove the fuel pump assembly.

Slide the low fuel light assembly sensor out of the pump assembly and swap over the FJR1300 fuel float.

Cut the green wire on the low fuel light and connect it on the fuel gauge meter.

Install the Koso meter on your own taste I have installed on the left side just above the high beam light cover.

Manual: https://kosonorthamerica.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/BA003250.pdf

Extend all three wires as this is too short for a R1.

RED - switch 12V+

Black - Earth

Green - Connect to the green wire on the plug of the pump assembly

Follow Kosos manual to set the correct fuel level.

I used USER mode (hold button long for 3 secs)

I know my full tank is 21 Ohm and empty 141 Ohm

Screen will ask you to put the float on empty. Do that and push to confirm.

It will save the 21 ohms on the meter

Then do for the full 141 ohm so put float to full

141ohm will be registered after pushing on the button.

Remove or tape over the low fuel light on the instrument cluster as it will keep warning as the oem wiring is cut. Remove/tape off the original low fuel light as this not working anymore.

Do work neat all the cables together and leave the signal wire a bit more slack when installing the tank.

That is it you have installed the Koso fuel gauge.

Do all the steps reversed and your done.

Thanks for sharing a guided tutorial on the installation! So now that you've had it on your bike for a few months, how's it working out, how accurate has it been? Also do you know of this would work on a 2012 R1? I'm highly considering doing this to my bike, would be a fun little project, why not.
