I did a search and did not find what I was looking for so here we go....

I am looking for some good tips on how to launch my bike. I have an 05 R1. I plan on bring my bike to the drag strip for the frist time to see what kind of time I get. But here's the thing. My old college roomate just bought a CBR 1000RR and wants to go too. So I forsure have to spank him. :eek:wwn3d Help Me Out Please, For R1's name stakes.

I have the GYT-R slip ons and Air filter
Old Roomate has just the honda sip-on race exhaust. We are about the same weight also. He rides a little like a sissy too.

okay no one wants to answer that for whatever reason but I was talking to a friend of mine and he told me to shift early out of 1st gear because is a really tall gear. Which I was like so what, but he continued about if you pin it and hold it in first that your bike will come over the top! Now I call bs but I have only brought it to about 11,000 in first where the front tire is off the ground but I'm not willing to try to prove him wrong. Can someone tell me for sure, and is it faster to shift out of 1st ealry.

You will probably fry your clutch by the time you get to where you can launch good. And when your front end starts to lift just use a little less throttle to keep the front end just off the ground instead of shifting early..Which if your new at it you will probably over rev first trying..

the new R1 is weak in the low RPM range and also got a very long 1st gear wich makes it even worse.
You need to keep your RPM high and slip the clutch so it doesnt bogg and go to the low RPM's.
You can play with gearing to make it better like 16t front sprocket.
For the clutch i burned a new set in 4 hard passes back to back.
The best thing is let the bike cools down between passes for about 20 min.
Short shifting wont result in a better time or a faster pass, but it could help you when the power kicks in and the bike wants to wheelie, shifting at the moment will cause the front to come down.

Do what ever from the line. Once you get rolling, put your feet on the pegs and get on the front of the bike. Put all your weight on the tank because you know first gear is about to lift the front wheel.

when i go into stage if thats what you call it, i bring rpm up to 7000 and hold it there

soon as i get the green light i start letting out the clutch so the front is just skimming while leaning all my weight forward and low keeping rpm probably around 8000ish

when the clutch is all out the front tyre touchs back to the ground then i stab the throttle (not WOT for chissakes!) and keep the front tyre a couple of inches of the ground

if my opponent is behind me ie: i cant see them, then i will modulate throttle into a 30-45 degree wheelie in front of them and hold rpm at about 13000 till i see they start catching up

when they start catching me i drop the wheelie and click 2nd and pin it same with 3rd

when im into 2nd and 3rd i sometimes fun rub my mirror with thumb sif im cleaning it and to let my opponent know im toying with them :thumbup

if drag racing around sweeping corners you can win tough drags if you can bring the front tyre of the ground while in the sweeper, trick here is to make sure the fornt tyre is hella spinning relative to the tightness of the corner such that the gyroscopic force of the cross up is enough to pull the nose of hte bike around the corner not many street racers know how/dare to do this
