You can do it with LED signals, but it is much easier to just buy LED signal/running lights instead. The running light version will have three wires.

Not sure if that is a good brand or not, just showing as an example of how the wiring looks.

If you wanted to do it to two wire LED units, my guess would be you would have to use the running wire for power to the LED, and then somehow interrupt the ground signal with the turn signal relay.
