I took my full Akrapovic system from my old bike (2000 R1) and installed it on the 2002 today. It fit great with the exception that the joint where the mid-pipe and collector meet lightly touches the oil pan (see pic). No big deal, I'l put some kind of rubber pad between them or something.
I have made no changes to the injection as of yet, but it runs great. There's a really nice hit of power at 6K on up. And the sound.........WOW.

Erkki,
I too have the full Akra from my '00. I have been toying trying it out on the '02, so I appreciate your info and pic you have posted.
Throw it on there!!! It'll save you some money and they are the 4-1 headers, which Ivan (of Ivan's needles) prefers.

I would be concerned about the pipes clearence with the pan though, the exhaust temps are quite high, say 1400+ in the combustion chambers and I don't know what by the time it got there, but I can imagine it's still real high. I wonder if you could use some sort of heat proof insulation material to help out the situation.
I've been thinking about it and I don't think it's going to be too much of a problem. If you'll recall, the pipe on the 2000 was very, very close to the pan in the same location, like 1/8 inch or so. I was more concerned about rubbing and/or vibration. I will watch it and see what happens. If I need to I will put some sort of heat wrap about the pipe right there.

A question for you, does the '02 still have the poping like the carb'd '00?
It pops a little bit, due to the lean condition. Not nearly as much as the 2000 did before I put the jet kit in. A Power Commander should sort it out.

Again, thanks for the post. :D
You're welcome!! :D :thumbup

Bender, I plan on getting a dyno run as soon as I have a Power Commander for it.
