I'm 26, live in Jersey, no points but had an accident 4 yrs ago. I pay $273.00/yr but that is for liability only. My full coverage quote was a whopping $1,700.00/yr which covers theft, fire, vandalism, natural disasters and so on. Either way, ur gonna get raped cuz it's a 1000cc engine and ur 20. And another thing, shopping around 4 bike ins is different cuz ur essentially gettin coverage from the same underwriter, well at least here u R. In other words, u can goto 50 different agents, but the ins company that covers u is still the same, capice, may be diff in ur parts, where u from again?

Im from chicago...im not interested in full coverage just liability...
Dude, how can U say that! What happens if ur bike gets stolen, or u fall, or u crash, then ur gonna pay everything out of ur pocket? Thats crazy!!! Even if ur loaded and have the money, I would still opt 4 full coverage. Just my opinion. And ps, I'm not say'n that any of that will happen, but better 2 B safe than sorry....

We have public insurance in Manitoba, so there are no private companies. Everyone with an R1 in the province will pay the same premium, however there is a discount for having a merit on your license - 25%.

For a $500 deductible, the full year would be $1,521.00 Canadian here for the 2002 R1.

What I found interesting is their brackets for displacement. The R1 falls into 501-9,999 CC category.

Insurance in NC

Hello,

I have insurance in NC and pay $799.00 per year for full coverage on my R1. I have no accidents ( or tickets believe it or not ). If I only wanted liability it would be $146.00 per year. I am insured by Universal Underwriters.

Hope this helps!:yesnod

R1Pilot and Aceracer seem to have the deal goin' on with their insurance......I'm calling State Farm first thing tomorrow morning!

insurance tricks

i'm 29 in ohio but i had insurance for about 8yrs. now. i got nationwide ins. for full coverage w/250 deduct. is 312 here. But here's what i do to pay only $58 during the spring& summer( 4 months). i dont ride unless its 80 or above. i pay $58 for 4 months and at the end of the 4th month i cancell it, put the bike in the garage(attached garage of course) you can either take the chain off or the rear tire, just so it can be considered unrideable to the ins. company. dont worry, your bike is still covered under your house insurance but make sure you have enough coverage under assets. this works for a detached garage but you garage insurance might go up.

My God Man!!!!!!

Only ride your R1 four months out of the year!? It would all but kill me to watch it sit for eight months out of the year........that's like going without sex for eight months out of the year.....and you KNOW that's NOT gonna' happen!!!!!! :no

Goodness.......set up a donation jar or something for insurance money if you must......but don't cage it up in the garage for eight months...... :n0t

I live in a suburb of Vancouver BC. We enjoy high crime rates, insurance fraud and lots of bad drivers. But it's a beautiful city.

$1800 / year CDN - every conceivable coverage

That's with my 10 year safe drivers 43% discount! Wouldn't matter how much it was, I'd still pay it.

Young guys

They hose you good when you are young. " Your group is over represented in accident and fatality stastitics":blah Doesn;t matter if you've a clean record, no claims, etc. IMO insurance is a huge scam, especially for young guys.
I pay about $780 full coverage here in Oregon. But I'm older, more mature you know:)
Our state is lightly populated, about 3.5 m, and we live in the country, so that's big. If you look at some of the guys that posted with really low rates you'll notice most live in smaller populated states, some with snowy winters that would mean little or no riding.
I'll bet in a big city like Chicago or LA that rates will be hi no matter. State Farm is one of the best, if you can get them. They usually want your home ins and autos too, but that'sOK. They are reluctant to insure sportbikes in Oregon, so progressive it is. I've had a motorbike ripped off before in California, that's when you are glad to have full coverage. Good luck;)

Try GMAC 800-325-1190. I get the works for $181 a year. They told me it cost less in CA, because of heavy competition. Ahhh, the benefits of capitalism. I wonder if we could declare a bounty on tree hugging norcal felch baggers. Might get rid of this stupid "CA bike" bullshit.

on long island...

Thanks to the high accident rate (aforementioned by Olddog) yes, it's true, they **** you good

However, if you shop around you can get fair rates. The best I've done so far (25 yrs BTW) is 1181 for both my YZF600R and my R1 with full coverage, theft to 6K on YZF and theft to 12K on R1....1181 is NOT bad! I think it's woth universal, but I'm not sure, my insurance guy did up the quote and now I'm just waiting to put it into effect because the bike isnt here yet :cryin

I can tell you that I checked with progressive, and the rate with identical coverage (get ready) was 6325.00 for the yeaR!!!!! talk about usurious??!?!?! I thought those kind of rates were illegal! Anyhow, you have to be careful because companies like progressive and looking to get OUT of the sportbike underwriting business...other companies want to get IN to that area- so there's terrible deals and great deals at the same time...shop aruond
