Just a little info on her riding for Corona suzuki alongside Jimmy Moore this year. Jonah talked to jimmy yesterday and he said as far as he knows, it's all a rumor. Just something that the press picked up on and reported. As far as he knows, Katja is not riding for Corona. Too bad really;)

Katja Poensgen is going to ride a GSX R1000 in the german superstock championship. This, she says, is to prepare herself for MotoGP by riding 1000 cc fourstrokes.

Read all aboput Katja at http://www.katjap.com
I would say, that is just a side aspect of the business. The real reason is, that she did not get enough sponsors to pay the GP circus. The question for her was to stop racing and so to say become "hemmafru" (housewife) or to continue wherever this is possible. As her father is working for Suzuki Germany, it could be arranged for her to continue racing, but on the much less money demanding german championship level.

$$$$

yeah, $$$$$ is always a big issue racing:( Even club level racing is extremely expensive if you are in modern competetive classes, i.e. 600ss, 750 ss or sb, or open ss or sb. At least a set of tires a wknd for the front end guys plus around $ 250- 300 for entry fees depending on # of classes run.................... My son has been very fortunate to have had a lot of help with bikes, tires, entry fees etc. Without the goodwill of the team owner we wouldn't have the where withall to be racing now, since he's also a full time college student, and Dad has spent all the money he's going to on this " fun ";)
Even doing the AMA 250 sched ( we will miss at least the Daytona round since one bike still is in Italy ), you can figure about $ 3000 per rider in each event. It SOUNDS high, but that's a fairly realistic sum. We've got some help with product and monies from half a dozen motorcycle related firms ( Arai,Brembo etc), but even at that, without a BIG outside sponsor, the majority of this is coming out of the team owner's own pocket. Thank God for guys like him that are compelled to spend their time and $$$$ this way!:) Yeah, it would make more sense for Katja to go where the support $$$ is, she IS a fine looking pilot:yesnod :thumbup

In GP it is more than tires: you need to pay a team, travelling etc.... And what are the benifits?

I know more riders than Katja Poensgen, who have to cut down their high flying plans and have to return into local or better national classes. It is not like this, that you are automatically a better rider, if you compete on international level. But to compete on international level, $$$ are needed as well, and sponsors in these days do not give away finacial help so easily.

Regarding Katja Poensgen, I would say, the most positive things with her was/is, that a lady is doing motorsports with some success.

I know some other ladies who are racing. In Norway for example there is a national ladies class. I think this is good.

I will have birthday soon. Since I am getting older, this reminds me, that I met Katja Poensgens grandfather two times. We participated in the same long-distance rallye, he in the senior class and I as youngster. For a long time I had contact to him. This shows, that the world is sometimes quite small.

I agree

You are right. The Aprilia's basically get fresh top ends EVERYTIME out, we keep a total time/ mileage record with the motors down to the crank within 200 miles. ALL the parts are very spendy, and generally both bikes get new slicks each time out.
Racing at a higher level than club or regional racing just gives you an idea how talented, or not, you truly are. I would say that every racer regionally here that goes AMA racing virtually ALWAYS becomes quicker at the local level on their return;) Anyways, it's fun to speculate:D

I mis spoke

Sorry:( I do not care to indulge in :bs , After talking to one of the mechanics I realized I'd made a stupid statement about the Aprilia's motors. It's actually 7.5 hours of track running, or usually around every third outing that they have to be completely freshened. My mistake:mad: I was just making a point about the $$$ anyways. She IS a pretty girl!:boobies
