I've always heard about cleaning your chain with kerosene is the best, and that many people, including me, use WD-40, but I can't find kerosene anywhere, so how about diesel fuel? Is that a good substitute?

Peace!

Sure, diesel fuel will work,.. just that it is not as chemically refined as kerosene, thus not quite as aggressive as a solvent (it's a little 'oilier').

Personally, I wouldn't bother. I would just stick with WD-40. I've cleaned chains with kerosene and a chain-brush and I've also used WD-40 with a 'Z-oiler'.

I will admit that the chain-brush and kerosene is a superior cleaning method, but not THAT much better so as to offset the mess the kerosene and chain-brush generate.

If you keep your chain in tp condition with regular clean ups, just a little WD-40 on a rag is good enough to get the grime and crud out.

My gold chain sparkles with this method
