Hi All!
I am new to the group and recently picked up a 2009 r1 with around 33,000 miles on it. However it seems to have a few issues. After a short ride today, the engine temp went up to 220 and while at the lights someone pointed out coolant was coming out the bike. It did not seem like a crazy amount and thought maybe the bike had been overfilled. I did a night drive and when I parked up at home, I noticed a new puddle. I am not the most mechanically inclined but I know the basics. Is this something to worry about or is this normal?

It's definitely not normal. 220 degrees is normal at stop lights. First step is to figure out where the coolant is coming from as that could tell you what the issue is. You're overflow reservoir could be overfilled or your thermostat could need to be replaced. You're probably due to flush the whole coolant system. I'd go with Engine Ice to help keep the temps cooler.

Thank you so much for a reply. Unfortunately the engine is turning off at red lights and it goes way pass 220 and the temp light comes on.

Are your radiator fans running when it gets over 220?
So it seems to be a few things from the garage.

1. The coolant was missing a pipe
2. Air intake pipe is missing
3. Air pressure Sensor is missing
4. Needs to rewire the front of the motorcycle
5. Needs New coolant

he said however, when all this was change the bike did not go above 216. So let’s see when I collect🙏
