OK. I've seen a lot of posts on both topics. Some people are getting around 150 miles on a tank and some less that 100 miles. I've also seen people arguing about whether they stick to the recommended break in or just go out and ride it like normal.

Just wondering if there's any correlation between the two. Let me know what kind of mileage your getting per tank and then tell how you broke the bike in. Curious to see if the two could be linked somehow. I know it's a long shot with all the factors that could be involved, but just humor me.

Gas mileage for some people can be like penis size...terribly exagerated. I'm following the break-in laid out in the manual. I've got about 240km when the light comes on. I've only filled twice so far and with about 500km total . I am really impressed with the mileage so far, but I've been pretty good to her.

My first tank lasted me less than 100 miles, my second was like 120, and the last time I filled up I got over 150 out of it, so it is slowly gettting better. There is two schools of thought on engine break in. Those that will have the bike for a year or so then get an 03, and those (like me) that won't to hang on to it for awhile. Since I won't to hang on to it, For the first 500 hundred miles, treat her as a new born. I never went over 6000 rpm. I changed the at 500 hundred. Then you can start to smack her a little, but I tried very hard not to take it too much over 7g's. Then I changed every fluid in the biatch. Suspension, brake, oil. I then set up my suspension, all my angles and everything. She is now ready to ran for the money. But that is just because I love my bikes.

im at 520 miles so far, the best ive got has been 124 miles till fuel light came on, keep in mind i have wound it up to 11,000 a couple times and i do ride between 5000-6000 rpm at all times maybe not the manuals break in, but i always believe in the (break it in the same way you are gonna ride it after break in rule) i always let it warm too at least 125 degrees before ever riding though as ive been told the warm up is very critical on these engines. just my 2 cents

I can tell you that that engine will last just fine without a proper warm up. I have never warmed up my bike, I would put on the choke when it was below 40 for it to start, rev it once, take off the choke and I was on my way riding it hard. I now have 93,500 miles on the engine and not a single valve has ever needed adjustment so I don't really think that a proper warm-up is all that critical.
