i keep my laptop in my desk drawer at work and i have a monitor, key board and mouse on the desk. the videos i try to watch with windows media player won't show up on the external monitor. it a pain to open the desk ever time i watch a video clip. anyone know how to fix it?

Have you tried modifying your video settins?

not sure how. i've looked through all the WMP menus and my computers control panel, and can't find anything to fix it

both screens show the same things, only difference is that wmp is black on the external screen where the picture should be

You might try cycling through your video modes. On a Dell, for example, there is a blue Fn key near the Ctrl key. Fn+F5 will cycle through:

LCD only
LCD+monitor output
monitor output only

The video card may be having a tough time sending video to both lcd and monitor. Try just monitor output and see how that goes.
