I am very new here but I have a question maybe you all can help I own a 2000 r-1 about 7k miles. Started to have blue flame out of the exhaust and shortly my oil came on then off then on for about 2 miles then i put it on the trailer. Once we got to the track a local mechanic started looked at it and told me to put my hand on the number 4 header and it was cool to the touch the other 3 were smoking hot. When i started it up there was a little gas leaking from the overflow tube. We broke it down once i trailored it back to Atlanta the carbs and needles springs and such are fine. I am thinking I may have just fouled a sparkplug. Only dumb question is the one not asked. If any of you could provide some insigt I would greatly appreciate it.

Please,be more precise...I"m kinda lost when you go from the blue flames to the oil "on and off"... :)

Is the bike near impossible to ride at low revs?

If so,then yes,its possible that a plug is fouled or disconnected.

As far as the oil light (which I assume is what you wanted to ask!)it can only be 2 things;

-oil level is low
-oil level switch is stuck or bad

Was that bike stored and recently put back on the road?

Its all in the details man :)

sorry..my oil level is in good shape. i think it it's just bad what worries me is i dont know why the 4th header (far right side)was cool to the touch while the other 3 were smokin hot. i had a rider come up and tell me i was spittin a little flame i shut it down then started her back up and POP at low revs its like it doesnt want to go anywhere but once i get on it it goes..I hope this helps a little. All this good weather down here has got me all over the place..sorry for the confusion

Really,I"d have to see it (impossible)...

Could be 2 things:

1 cylinder has way to much fuel or doesnt burn it,or the other 3 cylinders need more fuel....i"d go with option #1 :)

Got to get to the offending cylinder"s plug and take a look...once this is done,we"ll go to option #2 (why did it get fouled,if its indded fouled,of course!)

Its possible;

Those mixture screws have to be LIGHTLY seated in order to adjust them,meaning you screw them in using your finger tips on the screwdriver and as soon as you feel resistance,you stop.

Its a good thing to clean them from time-to-time to.

Some people think that they need to be in tight,that is when you wedge the tips and break them or mess o-rings.

she runs like a champ now.. I am going to change the oil. One other thing this oil sensor light keeps coming on and off every so often. Oil level is fine. You think it may be the sensor? Ony my 98 my oil lght used to come on alot but that was when I was a wheelie fool I just use this one for triple digits when allowed too. This site is wonderful I plan on using it alot.
