Erion Honda Superstock rider Anthony Gobert is stuck in Australia awaiting his visa and paperwork to leave the country and come to the US, according to Kevin Erion, owner of Erion Racing. Gobert is signed to Erion Racing to race the '04 Superstock series.
According to Gobert sources, the eldest Gobert brother has filed all the necessary paperwork with the US consulate in Sydney, but is still awaiting the actual visa which will allow him to leave the country and race in America. He has been waiting for the visa for over a month.
Making things more difficult--the consulate has his passport and won't return it to him until they have the visa in hand. Meaning Gobert can't simply leave Oz on a tourist visa if he so desires, and return after Daytona to iron out these visa problems.
Reached this morning in Daytona Beach, Kevin Erion said that as the moments wind down, it is looking less likely that Anthony Gobert will be on the motorcycle at Daytona. "We all went into this with open eyes, and Gobert's mom was very up front with us that they were having a problem getting the visa to leave the country," Erion said. "We knew what we were getting into here, that we got a late start on all this so they did as well, and we knew that he might start at Daytona or it may be after Daytona."
It's still remotely possible that Gobert could obtain his passport and visa to leave the country and make it to Daytona to perhaps qualify and race. However, with the time change, travel time and early race time at Daytona, that window slams shut in about eighteen hours, or less.
