What's up guys?

I'm new to the forum and I need some advice. I'm looking for some steering dampers for my 2000 R1. I'm thinking about getting the Ohlins. Does anybody have any other brand that I should be looking at?:jump

Allot of guys on the bord like Scotts, but I hear Ohlins in the best. They are both expensive and can be found with $100.00 difference in price if you shop around.

hey, i've got an Ohlins Steering Dampner that I just took off my 1999 R1 before I sold it if anyone is interested. It's in mint condition, perfect, not a scratch. I've read and heard that they're not necessary on 2002 R1's so I'm just going to sell it. Email me at [email protected] if anyone is interested.

hmmmmm.... i read something in motorcyclist or cycle world. don't remember which one but i have them both at home and will check them tonight. they're both the most recent issues, both with an 02 r1 on the cover. basically the article said something about the new ones not needing a dampner anymore because of some changes to the front end. i don't know the exact specifics or technical terms but i'll be sure to post it tonight when i get home.

you DO WANT a damper

i had my 02 on a bit of a rough back street last eve
on my way to the twisties...
got on it a bit...really just short shifted through 3rd and
rolled on ....enough...and man...she really shook her head at me...it was enough to make me really really put a damper at the top of my upgrade list...above slip on...
i pulled out of the mini slapper without a problem..but it was not something that i want to happen often...
trust me you want a damper on the 02:jump

I use the ohlins and I love it but a lot of your problems can be corrected just by tightening the steering head bolt. I have noticed that all of the new R1's get real loose after the first 3-400 miles.

I have that issue of Cycle World in front of me ... it's not in that one. Probably in Motorcyclist.

I'm probably going to get a Scott's regardless. I just want to see what people are saying.

Thanks for the feedback joazz22, BLove, R1 - Rowland.

hey guys found the article about not needing a steering dampner on the 2002 r1. it's in the may issue of motorcyclist, page 38, right hand column. it say's the need for a steering dampner has been completely eliminated on thye more composed r1. let me know what you guys think.

yeah, and those are the same guys that claimed months after months that the old 97 tls did not tankslap...

God is my witness(i saw him when it happend)that bitch slapped me twice in a row on a straight highway at about 140...2 hours later i was buying a damper,2 weeks after suzuki recalled them all for damper installation...

keep the freakin thing.

Ohlins on the 2002

The 2002 R1 does not really need the Ohlins if you are riding smooth roads all the time but who is. I just put one on my bike and it has made a big diffrence. The front end is much more stable.

I was not going to put one on until I did my first stand up at about 95. when I put the front end down the front end through a fit. No problems but the Ohlins has made the re-entry from the wheelee much more fun.

A tech note, the ohlins from past years R1's will fit on the 2002. I think that it is the only aftermarket part that crosses over. I have been trying to get a Wolf underseat exaust system on my new R1 and because of all of the changes I am still in the pit.

Anyone else out there been thinking about making there new R1 tail section look even cooler with an underseat system.

Hey Mean Silver,

When you say the Scotts from b4 will fit the '02, do you mean the mounting bracket is gonna fit? I know the damper itself is universal, but I was under the impression that we'd need a different mounting kit.

Thanks!
