I am going to racing school in the spring. I don't want to actually get my racing licence - just want to get a couple days of pro instruction to get rid of some of the bad habits I have collected over the years.

Question:

Do you think I should use my own bike or rent a track bike?

If I use my own I am concerned I won't 'push' it as hard as I could - for fear of dropping it in a corner or something like that. I am not even sure if my insurance will cover the bike if I damage it on the track.

If I use a track bike (choice of R6, GSXR6000, or ZX6) I will probably push it harder since if anything happens to it am covered. The downside is I will not be getting more comfortable with MY bike.

Thoughts - what would you do

BTW - the extra money to rent a track bike is not an issue.

I don't know about Canada but in the US insurance will only cover if it is a training class not a race. I would get a track bike R6 maybe they are great on the track you can flick them around much easier than an R1

Well.. take it real easy a few laps with your own .. and then go out with a real racing machine.. I'm sure that if it's the same kind.. I mean... if it's an R6.. then feel shouldn't be that far off from the R1. Rock on! :crash

I think I would probably rent a bike. I'd feel nervous about using my own bike. But if you want to get comfortable pushing the limits I would want to explore those limits on a bike similar to my own (lite bike not 600). Therefore you will know what to expect from your bike. It's a toss up. I guess it really depends on what you hope to gain from the class.
