Hello All,

I have a two-bike combo build going on and I'd like to get some opinions from guys who know the 02 03s well. The frame I am using is an 01. I am swapping in the 02 03 motor as the 01 is currently apart anyway... I may rebuild that and swap in back in but that's another story.

What I am curious about is which parts are truly better parts from the 02 03 in terms of suspension... IE Swing Arm, forks, wheels, rear shock, calipers etc... which parts do I want from the 02 and which should I keep from 01. I know what I HAVE to use for the motor swap but beyond that I'm wondering how much better are the 02 parts really? I have all suspension, wheel and brake parts from the 01 just not in the pictures. I also have both OEM headers and exhuasts. yes I have those huge crazy side pipes and I thinking I'm gonna start off with the OEM 01 ! Haha. I love that huge stupid thing.

Thanks.

The 02-03 chassi is better in all regards. Just compare the two frames (visually) and you will see the beefier/stronger construction of the 02-03. Look at the rear, upper mounting for the engine and the drop down sections where the swing arm bolt goes. Being able to tell any difference between the suspension bits and braking components is nearly impossible (though yamaha suggests they are better). Forks are shorter on the 02-03. The offset for the triples is better on the 02-03 aswell.
Thanks buckets for answering!

I wish I could use the 02 03 frame - truly but no title and its hammered pretty good. I'm going to go w/ what you suggested and eventually put on 07 08 triple and the newest forks I can get fit which I think are all the way up to 14 in that triple if I recall correctly. What is the deal with the goofy symmetry on the 02 swing arm. I thought it was bent when first saw it. :screwy:

Also, any diff in the wheels?? Your said swap triples but didn't mention forks?

03 for everything
I was thinking that route but my 03 parts are higher mileage and look more abused than the 01 so if there's no diff on some I'm going to keep the 01 parts... which isn't much at this point.

I am definitely swapping the motor over w/ all the FI goodies. The 01 is good but took it apart b/c I could see some rust on the valves and the cylinders... I should have left it alone it was fine but anyway for that reason the 02 motor is going in.

Also, which tank should I use? I have an inline fuel pump that is test for the 01 tank and I know that setup works and I also have an 02 tank with a fuel pump that is not test yet... any thoughts on that one. From a functionality stand point it makes no diff but I think I like the look of the 01 better.

Opinions?

I feel like a complete retard asking this but when you guys refer to the offset - When precisely does that mean? At one point I thought I understood the term but I'm not so sure. Sad, I've been riding and working on these since 1990 but I honestly couldn't describe what offset actually is.
