Basically what the topic states. I just replaced the starter relay that is located infront of the battery, under the tank. Fuses are good, it's a brand new unit from the dealer. So long as I keep the starter button pressed down, she runs and revs fine, until I let go, then it's like I hit the kill switch (lights and such remain on, just the motor dies). No codes.

Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

Two things come to mind:
1) There's a bad/dirty connection in the start/kill switch control.
2) The starter gear has gone bad and is not disengaging correctly once you release the start button.

So I flipped the wires on the relay and she runs great! Apparently you can't wire in a new relay the way the OEM comes out. reverse the wires and it solves the problem!

OEM the grey wire is on the left (rear) post and the red is on the right (front) post. I bought a replacement unit from a Yamaha Dealer in north Denver (Coyote) and wired it as this OEM came out, problem. Flipped the wires and it runs good as new.

(doing this as the google search and forum search yielded next to nothing on this quirky problem)
