Yesterday i told my friend, who never rode a motorcycle that im gonna buy a Yamaha R1 and that its going from 0-60 in about 2.9 secs! Well then he asked me why im not buying a Hayabusa, because it would go 0-60 in 1.8 secs. I know thats total bullshit, a stock busa can never do that but he doesnt believe me. He told me he read it somewhere when the busa was coming out. Anyone know how i could show him that hes wrong??

Busa and ZX12 rein supreme in the 1/4 mile drag.
Was at a drag track in Louisville Sunday and Busa was the bike of choice. Very fast on the straights. Espically the ones with turbos.
I still would not have one of those ugly terds. Sit too low in the back and are ugly in the front. Not designed for steet use really.

rorob5,

you know, a wheelie bar ....

those frame-like structures they attach to sick bikes/cars that only drag race. it extends way past the rear of the bike/car and prevents the vehicle from flipping over backwards (wheeling too much).

all those jet drag cars have them. and my company sponsors a drag bike that has one - sick!

ur hurting my feelings bro,u think my busa looks like a terd?

Sorry, I know you can beat me top end and quarter mile.
But for street use R1 is tops.
I have a 2000 R1 Blue and was with other bikes this week end. All the :boobies and guys too said that the R1 looked better and got the most attention.
One friend even has a gixxer 1000 chromed out and my R1 still got the attention and most pictures taken of it.

Oh I might have biased view since I own one.:D

From everything I've read and SEEN a gixxer 1K will outrun a busa through the quarter and 0-60. I read that the 02 R1 runs a 1/4 exact same as the busa, but not as fast as the gix1K. But you know how reading is :bs . I have watched busa's get smoked by G1K though! I want to race a busa on my R1, see what happens. :beer

Brianb,

I was at Ohio Valley darg strip on Sunday! That was crazy! A friend of mine had the green zx12r with the wheelie bars.

Yeah there were some busas that lost to smaller bikes but I think that was rider skill or error. Seen alot of busa's get up on one wheel and the rider have to get off the gas to keep it from flippin over. Of course that hurts your run time.

Busa's and gix 1000 were usually neck and neck until the very end when the busa began to pull away.

Hey blue02 did you have your bike there. Was it parked about half way up the bleachers closest to the gate/concession area?

All the open class bikes have roughly the same 0-60 times, all in the high 2 second range. Busa really isn't going to be much faster then an R1 because both of them have way more power then they can use at such low speeds (yes, 60mph is low speed for these bikes. You're just getting ready to shift out of first gear at 60mph) It's simply not possible for a busa to run a 1.8 second 0-60 time. A 250hp turbo busa with stock suspension geometry isn't going to run any faster then a stock busa 0-60. You're going to be hard pressed to see any real acceleration difference at speeds under 100mph on any of the current generation open class bikes. We're talking tenth of a second variations here. On the street side by side that's going to show up as a bike length or two, but on paper it appears far less significant.

BUSA

My guess is that your buddy read a 60ft time, and not a 0-60mph time in that mag. All current bikes can run 1.8 60ft at the track stock. With some mods a Busa (and others) can get some 1.6 60ft's.

In a straight line stock to stock a busa will out run an R1 and GSXR1000, with equal riders. It has more power, and more weight over the front wheel, giving it the launching edge street or track. It also has a longer wheelbase, also good for drag racing.

I have beat a guy with a lowered, piped, mapped, geared, cammed Busa at the drag strip with my then slip-on having r1. It's all up to the rider. I have been beat by a stock R1 with my full system R1, he was a much better rider.

I raced a buddy once on the street, him on his piped and mapped busa, me on my r1. We ran it up to a bit over 180mph on my speedo, side by side. When we stopped I told him I was suprised it was so close all the way to high gear, he told me he was topped out in 5th and about to shift into 6th...lol I was amazed.

If you do a roll on in a higher gear with a Busa, say 70 mph both bikes in 5th or 6th, the R1 will kill it. Not because it's lighter or quicker, but because the gearing is so TALL on the Busa and Zx12-R.

Brainb,

I was parked on the right side of the gate by a yellow and black gsxr 750. It was over by my friends black trailer, the one who had the green zx12.
Did you do the dyno run? What does your bike look like? i didn't see many R1s there so i'm sure i saw yours.
