Rear axle won't budge

Ok after 2 hours I am fed up. Got my new tires in and went to remove the rear wheel. I took the nut off the axel, removed all chain tension. In the how to video he pulls the axel right out. I understand there is probably some corrosion. I took a wood block and a HUGE shop hammer and beat the thing till the wood broke. I don't know what else to do. I literally can't hit the thing any harder. I know it's probably just stuck but anybody have any more ideas?

have you made it so you can slide the axle forward and back (loosen the stops)? It sounds like you might have it tweeked in there...make it so you can move the wheel forward and back and I bet you'll get the tension off of it.
Most of your impact is probably being lost as the frame and swinger flex when you hit it.
Can you have someone put some pressure on the other side with something solid as you hit it?
I did both of these things. Wheel moves back and forward freely. Had a friend hold the wheel at every angle possible and still nothing. The hammer feels like it is getting a solid hit.

If you don't mind sacrificing the axle nut, you can try installing the nut on the axle until its flush with the axle, and give it good shot. Using a flat steel plate and holding it flush against the nut will minimize any damage from hammering. The wood is taking too much of the shock, and not transferring it. Heating the axle from its hollow center, and allowing it to cool could possibly loosen any corrosion hold the axle and bearing spacer sleeve have on each other. Getting heat to the middle of the axle would help the most IMO. Good Luck !
Yeah I agree hitting on a block of wood is not getting the impact where it needs to be.
I will try the heat! I considered doing the nut thing. The only reason i didn't try hitting the nut was I was afraid of straining out the threads

Axles and axle nuts are cheap, do what you have to.
Plus you only need to undo the nut like one thread, once you break it free it will be good to move
Ok so after a LONG TIME of banging with a hammer the axel came out. However it looks as tho it drug the bearing out the the edge of the hub. I hammer that back in place. Just wondering if I hurt anything? The sprocket immediately came off the wheel and I figured that would be attached somehow not just held in with pressure. Also, there is a short steel tube that I would assume the bearing rides on that came out and then in the middle of the wheel and longer steel tube that came out. The steel tube seemed to be loose in there? I can get pics up of what I'm talking about if I am not explaining myself well enough Water Auto part Wheel Automotive wheel system Bicycle part

Also the I only had one rubber piece behind my sproket? Shouldn't those be all the way around?

Looks like you should splash out on some new bits and pieces, that looks a bit of a mess.
Definitely need to clean that all up as much as possible and inspect for damage.

Speaking of cleaning; now that the temps are above freezing I'll get those wheels to the car wash for a cleaning, Ian. We had a 5 day period of freezing temps, and the last thing I wanted to do was mess with water.

Any ideas on the little rubber cushions? Should those be all the way around? And if so what are they call so I can order some

Most likely you're going to need to replace all bearings & seals and the center bearing spacer, the sprocket carrier bearing is probably an good indication of the condition of all the parts as it is toast. As well as the axle & nut.
