I have a 04 R1 and I kept the front 17tooth and changd the rear to 49toooth. Is that the same as going -1 +1 rear. Cuz going down -1 in tha front is equal to +3 in the rear correct? Thanks

should be close. You should be able to do a search for a gearing calculator. Looking at that you will be able to see the numerical differences in the two options.

way better for the chain to stay with the larger front sprocket and just go bigger on the rear, but like anything there are compromises.

the shortened wheelbase may or may not be desirable, and the new chain pull angle may hurt rather than help.

yea.. ur about right.. -1 in front is almost exact of +3.. but it can be off little in hundredths or thousandths

So what would be the benefit of going -1 +1 as suspose to +4 like i did?

Yeah but my chain was rusted and i went 520....
