Have any of you ridden an RS250? What were your impressions? My wife has limited riding experience and we are looking into getting her first street bike (anyone who says buy her an R1 is going to be shot) :machinegu Anyway im aware that this bike isnt slow by anymeans yadda yadda... but i thought it might be small enough for her to start with and have enough balls that we arent buying another bike in a year...

Isnt the RS250 track only.. because its a 2 stroke machine?? Only 4 stroke machines are DMV-friendly in the U.S.

And its costly, whether she dumps it or not..

If you want a cheap 250.. a street legal 4 stroke 250.. go for the Ninja250.. they are bulletproof as far maintenance goes.. and retail for $2999 brand new..

not as flashy as the Aprilia.. but still does the job.. and looks pretty sporty in its own right..

You are right about it being track only i believe...i just came across that on the net... You know how it is though.. you want to buy her something ..but you want to ride it to i might have to bite the bullet on this one though and get something along the lines of that Ninja 250

Well there are a few that are street-legal.. but you gotta bend over backwards to make it happen. I see the regular RS250's going for $4500 or so used all day.. search around and see if you can find one thats already been the trouble of getting titled and registered for a little more.. Its definitely gotta be a used one though.. the new ones would only be more of a hassle..

You may just get the best of both worlds.. Of course you are going to pay twice the price of a new Ninja 250.. but if its a play toy you want to ride also.. you'd definitely have twice as much FUN on the RS250 as you would on the Ninja..

ESPECIALLY ON THE TRACK!!! THOSE THINGS ARE FAST AS HELL!!

what are some other small but fast machines that would be good to start but still fun to steal and take to the track...you guys think the 600s are too powerful for a starter? im thinkin along the lines of the rc211v or the zx6? girlfriend hates the look of the r6!

Are you talking about a Honda RS250 or an Aprilia RS250? Both are two stroke GP machines and unless you buy one that was already set up for the street and registered you are going to have a lot of trouble making it street legal and getting a tag and registration. Both of these machine are very light (285lbs) and make between 60 and 80 HP but do to the nature of a two stroke engines do not make very good street bikes. You may want to consider a Honda Hawk NT 650. That is an awesome bike for a woman to learn on. You can even buy the Honda RS250 bodywork for it and trick it out.

I also think the Ninja 250 is the way to go....I bought an old Honda rebel 250 for 900 bucks and taught my Ex to ride it.....they are good bikes to learn to ride on...but the Harley look kinda gets to me........:lol
