Can I buy a Scotts dampner for any bike and just buy the mounting hardware for my '02? Will this work?

No, as a matter of fact. There are two different types of link arms that connect the damper to the frame of the bike. If my memory is correct, r1's need a straight link arm, while some other bikes use a stepped link arm. Be sure to check the link arm before you buy a used scott's damper.

They are called "dampers". Not "dampners" or dampeners".

A local dealership here is running a group buy on the scotts dampers. The group buy was also posted on SBN. It will be shipped to you and have all the hardware you need. I might still be able to get you in. I think that right now, after tax im paying 389.60. Let me know if you or anyone else would like to get in on the buy.
