Did any of you see the shoot out results from Sportrider?
Superbike magazine from the UK really screwed up the 04 R1. Turns out their favorite bike of the day was the honda 1000RR. You guys should see this magazine.....they had really crappy quarter mile times for the R1. I remember them stating the 04 R1 had quarter-mile times of 11.14 seconds or so at 137MPH. Other things I found odd were Top Speed for the R1 was only 177MPH, the awful quartermile times and something else....oh well. I remember seeing that their Honda CBR1000RR was faster in the quartermile than the R1.........what???? I couldn't believe that!

But that is the UK, however, I picked up a US magazine "Sportrider" and they went through the same tests....
04 bikes such as the R1, ZX-10, 1000RR, and the Gixxer 1000.
These guys results turned out more correct.
Quartermile times were 9.95 seconds or so for the R1 and 9.90 for the ZX-10, and they were hitting about 148MPH with those quarter times.
On the streets of willow the R1 kicked butt bad!! It beat the second best bike's (ZX-10R) time by almost a full second!! There were other tests and you guys should pick it up.
Turns out that the ZX-10 won the shootout but by a very very narrow margin. They said that the R1 was the fastest bike for the track than all the other three, but the ZX-10R won "king of the title" due to its beefy engine and some other minor things.
At least we all know the 04 R1 is the fastest thing now, though it may not have won the king of the title it sure put the Gixxer in its place. BTW the Gixxer came in 4th overall, not a surprise.

Don't know what those guys in the UK are smoking, but I trust the US mags over here.

True that a bike is as fast as the experience of its rider. However, the pros on Sportrider and Superbike mag said that the ZX-10 demands 100% attention and was the less forgiving compared to the three bikes. If you're a pro, then its easier to tap into the 10's potential. However, the close ratio gearing of the R1 has an advantage on most circuits if not all of them. If you pit all the bikes in stock form against each other and use them on virtually any race circuit the R1 will have an advantage; though the tall gearing has left the R1's street usage slightly disappointing at least we know the Yami was bred to race.
May be a one track mind, but Yami had to do something to put the Gixxer's in their place
