Has anyone here experienced a sudden loss of environmental sounds like wind and other environmental noises and can only here the bike engine and road contact of the wheels? I have had this happen once, it was completely bizarre. It was instant and obvious that I had just lost all other sounds. I was on a mountain top at the time which I had ridden often.

Anyway else have an experience like that? OR some other pseudo normal deal?

How would medication isolate the vehicle sounds from the environment sounds - ?!?
Apparently, you are not familiar with the effects that powerful drugs can have on the mind. Probably for the best. I have had an attenuation of some senses when increasing focus with others, usually on a racetrack, but not a complete exclusion. Seems odd, even with medication, as that would typically ramp up, not start suddenly.

Are you being serious? How would medication isolate the vehicle sounds from the environment sounds - ?!? No. I don't drink or take any meds period.
Very. I wasn’t being a smart ass either, simply asking a question.

People tend to forget a little thing called side effects. Common or uncommon, some medications have a vast variety of affects on people, because no two people are the same.

There is some powerful signal processing going on in the brain so we can see and hear. That's how you can hear someone talking in a noisy bar - if you record the conversation and play it back later, you won't be able to understand what the other person was saying.

There are a number of reasons why something like your experience can happen. Meditation, certain drugs, a brain tumor are some that come to mind, but I am not a specialist and no expert.

If it's a one off, I wouldn't worry, but you might want to see your doctor if it starts to happen regularly.

I've had a couple of weird visual experiences riding with a mirrored visor on a sunny day. It's like applying an Instagram filter - my colour perception somehow changes. Quite pleasant but I can snap out of it immediately. My vision is still fine when it happens.

I usually ride with a light smoke visor now, which has never had the same effect unfortunately!

It's called "the zone"....the condition when your focus, your skills, your machine, your performance, are all in sync. It is something to strive for, not worry about.

This. When I’m at the track or in the mountains all I hear and feel is the bike.

Sorry so late on getting back to you all on this... Been slammed at the shop... Restoring a lot of US Grey market bikes since we can't get the plastics here... Anyway the reason I asked about this is in response to something a much older rider had said. I mentioned my weird experience to a rider of 50 years (I've been riding just shy of 30). My experience was abrupt and obvious... I was riding up the side of a mountain at a good clip right at 7000 rpm in 3rd gear and suddenly all of the external sound stopped - went silent. All I could hear was the bike itself; meaning I could only hear the engine and the tires making contact on the road.. nothing else. This guy had the exact same experience and he was right around the same engine RPM but on a highway in CA (I was in upstate PA). He said the exact same thing happened. He could no longer hear the other cars, trucks wind etc... but the bike he could hear and the tires. He then said he noticed that while this sound phenomenon was happening all the other drivers were driving toward him as if they could not see him. He was adamant that one women in particular looked directly at him - at where he was and pulled over into his lane - into hm! --and he had to exit his lane to avoid a definite collision. He then said that he started to slow and the sound came back and he was looking at the woman who had taken his position and she looked stunned as if he appeared out of nowhere. He and I began to think something very very strange could be happening under specific circumstances not well understood. He and I both began to suggest to each other than the electro magnetic field of the charging system may somehow have begun to create some kind of torsion field physics type phenomenon that engulfed the immediate space around the bike and somehow interfered with any sound or light waves trying to penetrate said field... I know how crazy it sounds but it was the only thing we could come up with and our expediences were 100% identical in description so no matter what, it is a phenomenon not understood - at least by most of us. Thus - why I was curious if anyone else had this happen. in 30 years it only happened once so I suspect it has to be right place right time right conditions... very very specific to happen.

If you didn't hear the wind then that would've been awesome.

Gotta pic of your earplugs ?

With your case mentioned being in the mountains I was thinking some kind of ear popping interference making everything sound different.

Perception is not reality. What happened to you was inside your head, there are no physical processes that could cause what you experienced.

A number of race drivers have reported "out of body" experiences where they feel as though they are no longer physically driving the car. This usually happens during extreme situations and may be a way that the brain copes with the pressure.

Had you been taking any drugs, prescription or otherwise?

The fact that the other person who had a similar experience seemed invisible to others while he was in this state is the really, really odd part. And then seemed to became visible again when others sounds returned. Pretty sure that most of us on this board are not going to be able to understand that phenomenon.

A reasonable response - Thank you. For the rest of you who don't seem to get this - it was an external experience not internal. And again - don't drink and don't take any meds - no meds not aspirin not even a daily multi.

And no - the ONLY two things I could hear were the engine and the road contact of the tires - they were the most obvious. No wind nothing else.

For those that are not part of the waking world that I live in - here's a gift - high voltage electrostatic field = gravity. They are absolutely indistinguishable. You are welcome for that. Now for any EEs out there or physics guys who can get past indoctrination... what does that say for magnetic fields and electric currents? Thus - there IS something to this - its a HUGE leap which is why I'm looking for other experiencers.

Are you....? Na, couldn’t be....

Huge leap is an understatement. Do you know how many motorcycles are on the road? Vehicles in general.

This is an easy thing to figure out. Go recreate it. If it were science, this one should easily be repeatable, the bike rpms’s and the power generator are constants.
