He didn't even have a chance. He did get a stop and go for jumping the start though. It's funny he jump the start and all the yamaha still got by him. By lap two I think he was 8th then on lap 4 or 5 he came in for his stop and go.

Dude that ZX10 gave the R1 a run for its money. Good to see it running up front. I think the superstock is going to be the class with all the good battles and we wont even be able to watch it because they wont even air it after Daytona.

It appeared to me that the R1 and the ZX10 were pretty evenly matched in most respects. It looked like the R1 was a bit more composed on the brakes and the ZX10 may have a few more ponies than the R1. But overall they appear to be very, very closely matched bikes. They were both really nimble looking - so much so that I couldn't really see a difference in corner speed between the two.

And friggin fast! I was shocked at the speed and composure the bikes demonstrated. For bikes using stock frames, brakes, and motor components, they're EXTREMELY capable machines. The bar's been raised, that's for sure.

It appears to me that the gixxer is just a bit off the pace from the R1 and ZX10, and that the CBR needs a full on superbike treatment to be competitive.

Should tell you all you need to know when you go shopping this year...

hate to say it but i'd rate the yamaha riders better than the kaw guys so maybe the kaw is a stronger bike. but could just be a daytona thing. actually wish spies wouldn't have jumped to see how it would have turned out. and that anthony gobert coulda made it.

Dont sell Roger Hayden short. He was beating people on the 636 vs the 750's.
Granted, it is unfair for all the privateers to race agains a factory guy even if it is on a smaller machine :)

Roger Lee didn't race the Kawasaki last year. He was on a Honda. You are thinking of his older brother Tommy. GP

Spies & J Pridmore both had stop n go penalties, but in all honesty i don't believe Spies could have stayed in contact with the lead pack.:)

BD
Timing and scoring had Spies at 1.49.2 during the race and went from 20th place to finish in 8th. everyone else was turning low 50's so I'm sure he could have kept up with the lead pack.

You guys shoulda been there in the horseshoe to see it , I think that the Kaws may be up on power because everytime they would get to the banking "Here they come." But the Yamaha Train was workin right today. I just felt kinda bad that Buckmaster worked that track hard as hell and did'nt get to take the first place he deserved after leading most of the race. Anyone notice that Michael Jordans Rider was like in 28th place on his R1 with all the loot availible to him? I was talking with one of the privateers who raced in it from Cali, he said it was good to hear that us regular guys were rootin for him too. I told him that only a small percentage of Americans actually ride motorcycles and an even smaller percentage will ever run at Daytona like he was gonna do so he and all the other privateers were doing what most of us only wish we could do. He liked that, and ....................he finished up right behind Jordans rider. Jordans guy had a tractor trailer and full support. Dude had his buddy , his girlfriend and a beat up car pulling the trailer. Not to mention he wrecked his main bike and had to run a semi stock setup spare Gixxer1k. Much respect to the privateers. He even knew of Scott Winders.

what a fantastic race!!! its a freaking shame that speed thinks fx will be more worth watching than this class. superstock is where all the action will be. damon buckmaster is one of my favorite guys, but he needs his ass whipped for losing third place and costing yamaha the sweep!! do you know how cool that would have been?? damn i was screaming at the tv!!! he has lost quite a few races on the last or next to last lap and i don't know what his problem is with closing out close races. anyway, damn, that r1 looked so beautiful with the dual pipes and smoking around the track. glad i caught it on tape too!!!

World Superstock - Valencia? - R1 won it! Or is Valencia not a "real" track?
Dude I am wanted the R1 to win Daytona. I was trying to say that when we get to a real track I think the R1 will out shine the other bikes. Daytona is just a big drafting battle but when we get to a real road course I think the R1 will out handle the other bikes and do is proud.
