Suzuki's Ben Spies won the Fontana Superstock race today, bettering Yamaha's Damon Buckmaster and Jamie Hacking.

Spies won the event by a margin of 1.846 seconds, although Spies slowed up at the end. Behind the first Yamaha duo, teammates Jason DiSalvo topped Aaron Gobert and Kawasaki's Roger Hayden.

Ben said he was surprised at his lead. "I thought I heard someone on me the whole race. I couldn't believe it when my board said +2.5," Spies said.

Buckmaster and Hacking were left to battle for the two remaining podium spots. "These guys rode a great race out there," a gracious Buckmaster said afterward.

"I would have like for it to be a closer race, but I made a few mistakes and we let (Spies) get away," Hacking said afterward.

Kawasaki's Tommy Hayden finished seventh, ahead of Valvoline Emgo Suzuki's Steve Rapp, contesting this weekend's race on a Suzuki GSX-R750.

Yamaha's Aaron Gobert got the holeshot at the first start but Buckmaster quickly moved to the front. Spies rose from fourth to second before the stoppage.

The 17 lap race was red-flagged when Jake Holden crashed working lap eight. Buckmaster led at the red flag over Ben Spies, Jamie Hacking, Aaron Gobert and Jason DiSalvo. On the re-start, Spies got the holeshot ahead of Ben Spies and Damon Buckmaster and Jamie Hacking. Spies clocked a 1:26.122 lap on his first full circuit after the restart and quickly worked out to a lead of near two seconds over Hacking and Buckmaster.

Erion Honda's Anthony Gobert finished sixteenth

SHITTTT!!!!
The word in the paddock is that Suzuki has reverted to their previous dual staged injection, ruled illegal for use in 2004. In speaking with “friend “that has been at Fontana over the course of two days (press credential), is that no-one is prepared to step forward and make the accusation to the AMA.

Wasn't suzuki and honda caught using illegal parts in supersport last year?

Oh gimme a break!!!! I am sure that their bike was checked and inspected!!! Why is it so hard to believe that Ben won against the R1's???? Do you really think that Suzuki would risk something like that?? Are you insinuating that there is no way the 04 GSXR can beat the new R1??:crash
After reading about Ben's win...he got the jump on everyone after the Red Flag. I love it when people always scream foul when someone wins a race that is unexpected. :lol
Yes- it's impossible for the GSX-R to beat an R1.......it's simply not possible.

(just kidding- bit thought you guys would like seeing the words in text)

LMAO! :lol
The results from Fontucky aren't a big surprise to me as both Matt & Ben are highly talented riders in their own right AND in combination with a proven package (G1k/Yosh) over the past 3+yrs = wins/highly competative.
However i don't believe Matt's comments regarding his bike being down on power when compared to his previous bikes therefore making it somewhat tamer and easier to ride (it makes sense but not believeable) :bs

I think what he was eluding to was the fact that he has better tires....or could actually finish on them.
Actually, I believe he was referring to his speed trap times being several mph slower than last year. He attributes this to stock throttle bodies.
