My local gym has a very popular aerobic class during lunch. It is always packed, with mostly girls who give the right reasons to why g-string should be seen through tights. Part of the reason why the class is so popular too is the view. The front of the class is an all-glass wall looking out to the parking lot. There is a special spot reserved for motorcycle and it just happens to be right next to this all-glass wall.

Now, I don't have the coordination nor the val/bigpopper's grace to do those fancy aerobic moves; so I just go to the gym to hit the weights. Though most of the girls in the class recognize my face since I ride my bike everyday and park it right in front of their view.

Few weeks ago, I finally decided to put on the steering-damper on my F3. It was getting dark and I was too lazy to take the bike out to test the install. I figured I did the same install on the R1 and so, what can go wrong ?

Anticipating that the weather might get worse, I took the F3 instead of the R1 yesterday. As usual, I rode up to the gym and make a sharp left turn to enter the parking spot in front of the aerobic class. Only this time the wheel would not turn back after the sharp left. I tried to push it, but it just stuck (the fcking steering-damper was set to the higher setting).

WTF????

I put my leg down to stop the bike from being dropped. But it was too late. "FLOP".... the bike went down on its side. Of course, this happened when all of the chics were doing their things in the class. The whole class stopped and everyone ran to the glass wall looking at me. Worse yet, my leg was stuck underneath the bike. Minutes seemed like an eternity until I was able to free myself and stand the bike back up.

Damn...there is nothing more embarrassing then dropping your bike (while it is almost at a stand-still) in front of hot-looking chics. I got on the bike and just rode back to work. I guess I will need to change gym now. Finally gathered the nerve to write this up.

Anyone dropped their bike in front of an audience ?

Yeah, that's bad :)

I recently did something similar right in front of a local dealership/service center. My foot slipped off of the kickstand and didnt move it. I thought it was down and went to lower the bike. By the time I realized it, the bike was passed the tipping point and I was swinging my leg over. I kept it from falling and making impact, but had to rest it on the floor to reposition my hands to get it back up. Luckily there was only one other guy outside to witness...

Sorry but I laughed loud at that one.
I have dropped mine while barely moving but no one saw. My friend dropped his infront of a group when his girl stepped up on the passenger peg with all her weight and it just kicked out from under him in the gravel.

Props to you for having the guts to tell the story! It's definetly a good one. I stopped myself from chuckling otherwise the R1 god would have heard me. Then she might smite me down by making me drop my bike and then somehow catch my underwear in the chain giving me the ultimate wedgie.

Hey, those things happen I guess. My damper used to catch me off guard every so often too. Now I don't really crank it down that hard unless I know I'm going to need it.

My most embarrassing moment was on the 04 R6 I used to own.

This was only around 400 miles when i did it so i was quite new to it plus it was my first bike.

I didnt want my bike parked in my apartment complex parking lot so late one night i got on it, no gear, just to ride it about 150 feet down to the handicap ramp to put it on the side walk to put it on my back patio. Well I had to go down farther since that one was blocked.

Made it up onto the sidewalk and started to go about 25. Well someone was moving in so their uhaul and ramp were sticking out over the sidewalk. Without giving it a thought i went into the grass to go around and the damn dewy grass made the bike just washout. Nothing happend to the bike whilst it slide for a few yards except the front signal came out. My friends heard me leave and heard the bike cutoff. They came running and started to laugh at me because of what i did. Felt like a jackass. I walked it the rest of the way cause that night i didnt deserve to sit on her.

I recently did almost the exact same thing, but instead of a sharp left turn, mine was a sharp right. I accidentally tapped my front brake while doing a real tight right, before i knew it the r1 was down. The area that motorcycles park @ the base is just infront of the gate guard right before the flightline, so EVERYBODY walks right past it. I was real lucky that only 3 people saw me, including the gate guard. I was soo embarrased. Luckily my clutch slider saved ALL of it, no damage @ all, except a light scratch on the bottom of the slider.
Well atleast you had an excuse Yellowducking (your steering-damper). I didn't. hahaha I find myself laughing once in a while about that, but in the back of my head, it's not funny when it really happens, especially to you. hahaha.
