While riding I hear some ticking from the engine during certain low gears at mid rpms. I am running amsoil in the engine and asked a local cycle gear if the oil type should be changed? Does anyone have any suggestions as what it could be, if it is normal, or if a simple oil change may fix the problem?

Its very normal. Almost every r1 has a ticking sound.
