So, here I am waiting for a 2006 Suzuki GSXR-600 that I decided I was going to buy and my car gets stolen. Now, rather than to go ahead and immediately turn around and get another car, I decide to take a little advantage of California's good riding weather and I went and spent $2900 on a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250 in the Raven color... err... I mean BLACK!!! :lol :finger

VERY HUMBLING EXPERIENCE
And a little back history:
Now, I've got some riding experience on some older 600's from Yamaha and Suzuki that I've been lucky enough to borrow from friends that have extra bikes because they bought newer ones, but other than a dirt bike that I bought too long ago, I didn't have any 'regular' riding experience on a regular basis.

So, I figured it'd be a safe bet to go ahead and buy a smaller bike and ride it every day (because I have no car, although I can borrow my sister's car when I like cause she never goes anywhere) to work and whatnot. Well, although I wasn't 'bad' at the older 600's I rode, it was definitely a very humbling experience on this little ass Ninja 250.

While turning, upshifting from 2 to 6 and downshifiting, stopping, etc. was all good (afterall, those are the easy parts), I realized my weakness was in starting in first and starting on a upgrade hill.

Well, in just the past 3 days of riding I've pretty much gotten rid of starting the bike in first without lurching and am now as smooth as can be and am now working on starting up hills. Like I said, everything else I'm fine with.

Although I didn't want to buy the little Ninja 250, i have made up my mind to get the 600 in March and AM VERY GLAD I DECIDED TO GET THE 250 FIRST.

For anyone not a believer in starter bikes (myself was one of them), trust me it's well worth it. While you may think you're smooth and whatnot, you definitely don't want to find out on a more powerful bike and I do not regret for one second about purchasing this bike. I know that 4 months of 7 days a week riding will improve my skills 20-fold. Like I said, I've all ready got some experience on the 600's, just didn't realize until i bought the 250 how much improvement I needed to make in other areas.

Here's a bike of the cute little bike... should I put some red rim stripes on the wheels!!!?? :lol :finger :fact

Sorry, accidentally hit the submit button somehow before I was done typing :2bitchsla to me...

Minor update:
Although the bike is fun to ride, I'd still never buy a Kawasaki bigger than this bike... after just 3 days, this morning (a little bit I was going to make this post) Im riding down the street and the clutch cable disengages as I'm upshifting and I almost get rear ended as the bike almost stalls. Luckily I was able to keep speed up somewhat and get off the road without almost getting hit, but for 3 days of owning a brand new vehicle, I'm wonderng whether or not this Kawasaki is just shitting out on me cause it's a Kawasaki or if the dealer didn't inspect the bike before I left (I was in the sales room when they were "inspecting" the bike) :no

go get thier 650 and grow into it..take an MSF course to BTW! I cut my teeth on a 88 ninja 250...rode it from NJ to MAine! although they are a tame bike a 250 can get you in as much trouble as a big bike..problem is they have old school tires and suspension and breaks on 'em
I would really like to see kawi do an update on this bike. like oh maybe just shove this engine in the 650 chassis and call it good.

Good read. :thumbup

I think the level of progression goes up better by starting on a smaller bike.

A small bike teaches you the basics, while not being too intimidating. Add the fact that you don't have the balls-out power to get in over your head at the drop of a hat--which is very easy to do on any bike, let alone a more powerful one.

Not a bad choice on the little Ninja. Those things are usually a good seller once you advance to a bigger bike. There's always new riders looking for them.

my brother started and is still riding a ninja 250.. about a month ago he smashed his... fairings.. plastics... not too bad... upper part of the frame is bent to where the seat is a little tilted..(lol) but i think it looks cool now! no fairing on the front.. no windshield... looks good that way...

sometimes i'd rather take it if im just farting over to the store or something real quick but of course for longer rides i'd rather take mine... i guess i like it on the short runs cause its so user friendly and light.

i learned on a katana 600, that thing taught me how to handle a heavy bike, and i think i might have a problem with mine now if i started on that little 250... starting really light and moving up... it helps that i started really heavy and lost weight cause now it feels so light compared to the katana even though its still kinda heavy.

Kawasaki did not make a 'raven' color. Your bike is just that, black :D A black bike is not considered 'raven' as its color unless it's an '05-'06 R1 or R6. Get it straight :2bitchsla :D :D :D

Other than that, nice bike :thumbup

Good post bro. Unfortunately too many people let their testoserone get in the way and won't swallow pride for sensibility. Then again that's how others get spare parts! Really though I'm glad to read your experience and wish you the best on that 6 when you get it. :thumbup
