I'm looking for all possible vin model year locations on 04-06 r1 , two vins on the frame matche title (02 year) and police said this title is clean, and clear , so they have nothing to do, I bet I will get the same answer in dmv unless I point out on the true vin number

It has frame with holes for air duct pipes, yamaha started to do it in 2004 model year, I do believe somebody took 2005 bike and redid vins and got title from 2002. Vin on the frame is on a small metal plate

Yes I'm in U.S. I bought in August last year like a project to work during the winter for the next season , strongly believed it was 2002, cause title matched both vins on the bike. Than I started looking for parts and found out that frame is not from 02, because air duct pipes, so I went to local police department, with documents and said please take a look on the bike, they checked title and said it is clean and clear and since it matches your vin numbers than we have nothing to do. Than I said: probably the true vin is under this plate, they said they cannot remove it and said the only dmv may help. I will finish some mechanical work this week and will check with them but I believe it will be the same unless I point out on a true vin

I think I will ask dmv folks to pop up the plate, and than check the vin under it if they suppose it's fake. Dmv guys could messed up numbers on the title but not on the bike, so I think somebody tried to combine bike w/o documents with documents w/o bike. So there is a great chance the 06 bike was stolen and than "legalized" this way by 02 vins plates and title ;( the problem is if you sell/buy in state you should not do vin inspection - that's why people keep doing this crap !

Well, first I checked carfax report on this win, it says that bike was salvaged in 2008 in MAssachusets than it was moved by original owner in Pennsylvania than in New Mexico (smart move - explain further) There is no me like a registered owner on a car fax, so I went to dmv immediately because was thinking maybe title on my name as well as registration were fake. When the bake was registered on my name in July 2014 it did show up that title is salvage , so they give me the clean one. Yesterday they checked in NM database, they have 1)a clean status on the bike! And !! 2)No info about previous owners exceptof me. The first is clear for me: carfax is getting info from all 50 states . But dmv doesn't. If you get salvage status on your vehicle but you didn't update your title, you have a clean title paper - you go to another state and register it - they give u a new title clean again , cause they do not have info in database yet, however they gonna send request in the previous state of title to get info. It takes a couple months I bet. Than you move to the third state and do the same move they check status in the second but it is still clean the did not get update yet. So the request from the last state is getting answer - bike is clean.

So dmv friends helped me to submit a check request on this bike, so they will probably take it to state police for an inspection also they said even if this is a fake vin I cannot put it off by myself cause I do not have a right to claim it is fake or not so they gonna do it by them self and do not have a right to destroy vin on the vehicle

It depends what u r looking for, as far as I understand u want to know clean or salvage , owners accidents - than you need to go to carfax and pay - so u will get info , vin by itself can give u make model year manufactory color sometimes, engine type but that's it

Well the dmv higher folks redirected me to low enforcement. Also they said it is not actual mileage mention on the title with status clean in nm . No I need to set an apontment with low enforcement .;((
