It took a kinda drastic move from me. I had to buy a new engine. I got it yesterday from Gothenburg in Sweden. It was a 600 mile (900km) journey.. but well worth it.
I got the '98 engine w/o carbs for $650 USD.
It had gone 18000km (my old had gone 26000km)

When I placed both engines next to eachother I noticed one really weird thing with my old engine.
My old engine had a system built on that put pressure in the cylinders. Well.. thinking about it some it quickly come apparent that the old engine had been loaded with nytrogen. That engine had been really abused by some former owner. I didn't know that.. would i had known that I would never had bought it.

Anyway.. I got this new engine for a really great price and it is really a lot better too. Why?
Well, I went out today and took it easy first to let the oil go into all parts of the engine before I took it for a serious trip. so 5 minutes later :lol I started doing some wheelies.. 1st.. 2nd.. 3rd.. ah! nice.. this thing has a very smooth gearbox that allows for shifting during wheelies.
Then I attempted to wheelie in 2nd.. with just throttle. That went easy! slight pull only.. so I shifted down and .. hmm. I was apparently in 3rd gear!!! This bastard now wheelie in 3rd.. with me sitting down and with just a slight pull in the bars. That is some shit! I was so amazed I had to pull several of them.

I don't know if it is the engine that made the difference or that I put tape around half of the K/N airfilter to reduce the amount of air in the carburators.
Anyway.. this engine IS smoother/better than the old one.

Congrats Swedie! :rock That is a nice lookin' bike too. I am about 20 minutes from takin' my baby up the canyon for a little breakfast with some buddies. WOOHOO!! It was either skiing today or ridin' . Think I made the right choice. :thumbup

I would have liked to buy a used 98 or 2000,,, but anyone that owns a R1 holds on to them!!!,,, can't find one anywhere in Nova Scotia !!!
