Not complaining or anything, but listen to this...

Yesterday after work I decided to chop the fender of my new-to-me 01. So I spend almost an hour zipping it off with my dremel. Had to take the license plate off, of course. I get everything done, clean everything up, take care of everything. Then I go to my parents for dinner. Visit with them for a while, come home for the night. This morning I ride into work. This is the first day I've brought my new bike into work. All the co-workers want to see it. So I show it off. I forgot to put the f**kin license plate back on my bike!!!

Here's the best part though. I had a Manchester police officer following directly behind me for two blocks on my way to work this morning.

Man you are LUCKY!!!

Down here in Texas I got pulled over for having my plate tucked in the fender. The officer told me that the plate had to be "clearly" visible from 50ft behind the vehicle. I thought it was but he said either take it off or he'll write me a $150 ticket.

Just be careful about the laws and the cops in the area but I'm sure that you have nothing to worry about.

The part that sucks is I have to drive the bike 20 miles to get it home to put the plate back on. And now that I know the plate is off the bike, I'm going to be paranoid about it.

Who cares if you forgot your license plate! I drove my Dodge Ram in 3 states for over two years without registration. I drove my Sebring around on cardboard temp plates for over a year in two states. I was pulled over three and only received a ticket once (for doing 50 in a 45 zone).

When I got a 2001 corvette last February I never bothered to get plates or have it registered (bought it in another state), I drove it in three different states and never received a ticket or was pulled over. I drove it around New Orleans for 5 months! If you've ever been there you know they have more police than anywhere else on earth!

I actually sole the vette a few months ago, never paid sales tax. Perfectly legal, just have the new owner register it as if you both bought it originally, give the new owner a limited power of attorney and have them remove your name from the title the next day.

What I'm getting at is that you don't need to worry about not having a plate. Hell (forgot about this one), I road my old 916 around for weeks without a plate, it fell off while riding one day! No worries!

Hey jRaskell, thats a good one. Sounds like something I would do.

A buddy of mine, who owns his own bike shop now, has been to MMI, roadraced all around Texas and other places, and still doesn't have a motorcycle license, plates, or insurance. Just uses temp tags all the time, even before he became a used bike dealer. Doesn't hurt that knows a lot of cops as well.

Some guys can just get away w/ murder.
