Never, Ever, run car motor oil in your bike. There are several threads on this topic.....try the search tool.
The Use Of automobile Oil in a Motorcycle is Not recommended.......!

Unlike Cars..... Bike Transmissions Share the same Oil with the engine.....Because Bike Engines operate at much Higher RPM's and MUCH higher temperatures...

Motorcycle Motor oils are specifiiclly designed for this purpose.....! I'm not a chemist....but the additives And Chemical makeup of Bike Oils are designed to deal with this....

Hence some Motorcycle Specific oils are $7+/Quart!!!!!!

Trust me ..., Leave the Auto oils w/ the cars....Stick to bike Specific oils.....Choice of brand is another whole discussion!!!!!....But keep bike happy w/ its own oil...

Quakerstate 5w 30 in my Civic since day 1....130,000 miles and running like new.....
Mobile 1 syn.
:2bitchsla Your both smacktards... dairyman & railr1:finger :lol

DONT USE CAR OIL FOR AN OIL CHANGE! IF STRANDED, WITH NO OTHER OPTION, AS A LAST RESORT TO LIMP YOUR BIKE HOME* , USE CAR OIL TO TOP UP ONLY!

*(TO AN IMMEDIATE OIL-CHANGE OF MOTORCYCLE OIL AND FILTER) preferrably MOTUL... semi-synthetic
You can get mobile 1 at advanced auto parts, or auto zone....do a search on it, a lot of members here use it. I beleive it's the one with the red top.
im gonna do an oil change on my bike this weekend (01 r6) any good write ups..?
Read this, including all the links, then go buy yourself some mobile one 15-50 synthetic.

the important thing, is to be sure the oil is NOT engery conserving.

Amsoil full synthetic, or Mobile 1 synthetic NON energy conserving....(15-50). Both are exceptionally good oils.
Well what kind of oil do you use during break in period? I used conventional castrol GTX on my 9r during break in, then switched to Mobil 1 MX4T after 1200mi. Worked fine that I knew of.
so basically mobil 1 synthetic the stuff for cars is good for the bike to?
i run catrol 20w50 in mine and always have. and i work at motorcycle dealership. i had 40,000 miles on my gsxr750 and drag race it more than i rode it. yea yea yea i tell everyone to run motorcycle oil, but i have my beliefs and u have yours. i change oil about every 600-1000 miles anyway. and with drag racing i have to change clutch out anyway. never had any problems..... read every oil report on internet. still use same oil in all my vehicles. will i recommend it to anyone...no its like which brand of underwear to buy. buy what u want and believe in. so saying that use a motorcycle oil, if any problems occur that deal with oil system, yamaha warranty wont cover it if u use an oil deemed not suitable for m/c use. and if mine blows up, ill just replace the parts and start again. can u get more h.p. outta some oils??? yes.. use what u like and everything on the internet is not gospel

Yes. There are several diffrent weights....you want the 15w 50, it is in the RED label. This is the only one that is NON energy conserving.
