Ive noticed that Yamaha r1 depreciates more than the gsxr1000 and other liter bikes. Is it because many peole are selling their yamaha r1's and getting the more powerful boring looking gixxers? I just looked on ebay, but you can get yamaha r1's for like 5000$ easily.

They do depreciate quite a bit - however you aren't ginna get an R1 in respectable condition for even close to 5 grand! Most of them go between 7200 and 8200 and with Ebay, you don't even know what the hell you are getting. Go to cycle trader.com you'll see that they go in the 8's - and my theory is if it wasn't for the 2002 coming out, they'd still be in the 9 thousands. All bikes depreciate, but this year the 2002 hurt the used r1 market alot.

Comparatively speaking, replacement OEM parts for the R1 are MUCH cheaper then it's competitors. R1 plastics in particular are much cheaper.

One thing i love about the yamaha r1. Just go into Ebay.com and type yamaha r1, and you get pages full of stuff for sale. Do the same with a gsxr1000 or 929rr and you get half a page, or less .

scud nailed it. anytime a company comes out with a redesigned model you'll see depreciation in the previous model, this time last year you couldn't touch an R1 for under $7500.
