I can get the 4 year factory extended warranty for $700. did you all do it? Why or why not?

I've never bought one but with a first year bike and all the new things, I'm considering.

im in the same boat. in Canada I can get 2 more years for an extra 575$ plus tax I think. I've never been a warrantee guy but it might be worth it with all the untested stuff like electronics and new engines etc. I'm leaning towards doing it...plan on leaving mine stock and doing street and track miles...

I got the extended warranty !!! Alot of technology on a production bike and the first yr for it too. But that's me all I can say if something go wrong you be paying out the ass if you can't fix it yourself

Ill check him out. I opted not to get it. There is simply no way i'll have this bike for 4 years. Ive had 1 bike for two years. The others didnt last a year (7). So for me... I wasnt going to get the money back out in resale.

I'm buying it... she's a keeper and I just feel better spending less than $100 a year for the extended warranty. :fact

If I keep her for the full 5 years then I am only paying 17.3 cents a day for the extra coverage. Seems worth it to me when you break it down like that.

And another fact... the extended warranty is transferable if you sell the bike. :fact

Talk to Ernie or Alicia, either one of them will make sure you're taken care of.

I normally pass on extended warranties and even though Yamaha has been pretty reliable with their R1 new model introductions, I got the YES warranty this time around. Millers gave a deal too hard to pass up.

Not blaming Millers here, we just couldn't solve a bureaucratic issue together and after few calls they gave up.

Ask for Tad Summers. He sold me my 05 R1 and I got the YES for around the same price as Millers.

...when I went to buy the Y.E.S. I found out my bike has a mechanical only warranty in her first year (not mentioned by the dealer that sold her brand new to me...but that's a different story).

I've to recognize Ernie Millers here in the forum.
He just went above and beyond a common sales man and dug out that, while the bike is eligible for the YES extended as I was told by Yamaha, I've to be present at the dealer with the bike to purchase it (not happening across states ).

In the end I think I'm giving up and I'd trust the Yamaha quality without warranty... lesson learned is that the dealer that sold the bike has not been honest to say the minimum :436:

Try D&H Cycles in Cullman, AL, they are even cheaper than Miller's.

I'm gonna get one before my year is up. I just worry the IMU blows up or something as it's new tech, or my electronic ohlins etc.

Me too, I had it on my '99 R1 and had the transmission worked on 3 times and a total engine rebuild at 100,000 miles due to a scored piston and broken connecting rod. The had to be one of the best investments I've ever made, I never had to use it on my '02 R1 or my'03 FJR and even if I never use it on my '16 I am plenty well ahead.
