The Racer 1 is a great helmet, very good quality but for some reason I get alot of wind noise in my left ear. Not alot, but a bit more then the right. Its still pretty quiet, and nice and comfy. Anyone else get any "extra" noise from the left side of the helmet? I would definatly buy another one if the left ear noise was gone. KBC is top notch, its up there with the best and has a great price.

it's a "Good" helmet,With a good price...it's main downfall is it is a Brick...VERY heavy.

I recomend wearing earplugs...

I actually own both helmets.

The KBC Racer1 is garbage. The wind noise is awful, I've had the visor release mechanism break, the fit is far too loose, and the helmet is just plain ugly looking. There's no doubt about it, it's a cheap lid and I got what I paid for.

The SHOEI RF1000 fit is tight, but it holds on to your head at insane speeds. The looks are awesome (get the voltage graphics!). The wind noise is almost nil compared to what I had before (Look Mom! No more earplugs!) The visor release is simple and easy to work. I feel like I actually got my money's worth out of this lid so far.

I have Arai Quantams (several) and a KBC Racer 1. The KBC has a fully removable liner which the Arai does not have. The weight of both helmets are about the same. The KBC has a very slightly larger shell. Fit is good on both but the Arai is more plush. Venting on the Arai is better due to the "brow vents" in the shield. The size M KBC fits snugger than the size M Arai. All in all the KBC Racer 1 (NOT VR1) is an excellent helmet. I was able to reduce the windnoise to equal the Arai by adjusting the shield (adjusting the side pods) so it fits perfectly when closed. This is a little time consuming but once you got it set it's good to go. The quality of the KBC is very good. I actually use it more now than the Arai's because I can remove the liner and wash it and the fit is a little more snug. The shell is a composite of kevlar, fiberglass and graphite and is Snell approved. The COMET graphics are really nice too. It's worth a look. Also if you buy a helmet from Cycle Gear they have a 30 day no questions asked exchange policy. If you buy a helmet and don't like it, return it for a different one within 30 days.

I had a KBC Racer 1 and after my crash I went to a Shoei. Not because the KBC didn't protect me but it had a pretty good scrape/gouge on it. I went with the Shoei because I needed a new helmet and got a good deal on it. I had already been tossing around the idea of an Arai or a Shoei before I bought the Shoei. The best advise I can give is get the one that feels the best to you. Everyone's head is different and every helmet fits different. Try em all on and then decide. You don't want to spend a couple hundred bucks on a helmet that makes your head hurt. The only thing I noticed about my Shoei is that it seems lighter and a little quieter but I also have a Chatterbox now for music which wasn't in my KBC. Good Luck

I have the KBC Racer 1 and love. I did find it to be a little noiser than my Arai Quantum, but I love the fact that I can change the visor in less than 30 second on the KBC. On the Arai for me it is like performing minor surgery.

I would buy the KBC, as a matter of Fact I bought a second in a different color. You can buy two for the price of a Quantum or another helmet..

Exactly how much heavier is the Racer-1 than other helmets? Back when I used to ride (1993-1995), I started out with an AGV that I bought from the dealer. OK, but heavy. Went to an Arai Signet which was very snug (better fit for my round head) and weighed about 1/2 lb less than the AGV, so I know the benefits of a light lid. BTW, I will try on some helmets before I buy...

Thanks!
