Anyone know how to do this for cheap...(or Free) on an 02 R1 ? I have an R6 race bike with woodcrafts, and was going to switch to GP, but once i get going good on the track, its a disaster because I been riding standard shift for over 15 years...its so natural (down is down up is up !!) I wanna switch my R1 too so i can ride on the street and try to re learn how to shit, but dont wanna buy rearsets !

2 choices:

a) Try to buy the Yamah race kit shift rod & spindle that allows to easily switch between street/race shift config.

b) Heat & bend the shift rod so that the spindle contact point is above, rather than below the shift shaft. Then, reverse the spindle on the shaft & connect it to the now-bent rod. Someone posted photos of this a while back, & said it was working for them. Only downside is that you'll have to buy a new shift rod if you want to go back to the street pattern.

I'm hoping Yam will someday release an R1 version w/ an up/down push-button shifter.

I have the Bent shift rod from woodcraft for my R6......fits thr R1 too. Problem is...to mount it on the R6 you flip the Spindle like you said.....and there is not enough room to flip it on the R1.....the frame is way to close, cant get it in there flipped upside down. I tride to search for other posts cant find anything

In addition to the bent rod you will need a spindle from a 98-99..... Im pretty sure they are smaller and once flipped do not come in contact with the frame....
