My GF has a CBR 250 RR and I replaced the plugs, filters and oil but when I took the tank off I saw this...........thing (a filter of sorts).
What is it, and what does it do?
I think it had foam in it but it's shagged.

Is it like a charcoal canister in a car??

ya, I suspect it's some kinda vapor recovery type emissions crapola.

dunno for sure though...

there must be some on-line information (parts manual, etc.) that you can access... try www.google.com if you don't get a better answer here than my lame one.

:crash

On cars it called the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV)valve. If it gets clogged up the heat in the crankcase will cause it to pressurize and start leaking at the seals, normally the rear main. This is a very common cause of oil leaks with idiots who cant maintain their vehicle.

I would put some type of screen back in to replace that foam crap.
