After seeing all the changes made from the 02-03 bikes in 2004, I am convinced that Yamaha knows what we want and probably checks out this forum regularly. So my question is: If a MotoGP derived 800cc was available would you be interested or is the 1000cc the only way to go? After riding my 600RR for the last two years, I would vote for the 800cc. I'd like a little more power than the 600 but don't want to give up the greater corner speed I have had with it. The GSXR 750 is not an option for me; I like Yamaha styling and finish better than Suzuki.

Doubt yamaha will bring out an 800 machine. On a lighter note I was talking to this dude at squidfest bikenight a whiles back. He told me the whole 1000 lineup was being discontinued because they are becoming too powerful. When I asked what they were being replaced with he said 800's. :lol

sounds pretty believable soon every liter bike is gonna be sporting 200hp from the factory the way things are going.

I personally think these bikes will stay at 1000cc. There may eventually be some sort of a power cap on the bikes, but you know the old saying: "There's no replacement for displacement."

**** the power issues...put money towards good and great suspension goodies from the factory, dampers...handleing basicly.

I dont think that they will be able to squeeze much more horsepower out of the 998cc engine and maintain reliability. The horsepower I believe will cap itself mechanicly.
And +1 on the suspension and brakes.

800cc moto gp bikes have nothing to do with the bikes we ride. Things rarely if ever trickle down from moto gp directly to production bikes. The technology always makes a stop at superbike racing for a while. Until WSBK & AMA move to a different displacement will continue to have 1000cc bikes. The question is how much of a power increase will we see from the 1000s in street form. Suzuki has already said they'll give the gixxer 1000 200bhp if the demand is there.

demand to go faster and accelerate quicker will always be there. the problem is when you have knuckle heads who try to reach those limits on the street and innocent people start getting hurt and killed.
