i was thinking about an FJR to take the wife on a long cruise. the R1 just isnt comfy for two (im big) for long rides.

Id never get a "cruiser" thats for old men and posers..
I have an FJR! Great bike! Wife hates the R1, but loves the FJR! Lots of torque, fast for a Sporttourer, handles decent, and I can go 240 mi. on a tank. I find myself riding the FJR more than the R1 now.

the FJR looks real good. Rode my co workers Kawi Concours the other day since it was shaft drive. The big thing I noticed was the whole bike lifted up when you accelerated and dropped when you closed the throttle. The FJR has a lot of the styling like the Kawi Concours. I will definately stop by the dealer and see what they have to offer in the FJR.
But I think I want to go for a V-twin. Something low and grumbly. I've always wanted a Harley "type" bike but can't stand the Harley's undependability and big dipshit additude. Loved riding a friends softtail Harley (w/ drag pipes)when I worked on it. But that's just the thing I worked on it a fair bit and it didn't have that many miles on it.
ok...my dad has 3 harleys in his garage right now and only ever has to work on his old bike (1978 lowrider) and thats because hes obsessed with modding it:fact

He also owns a 03 softail nightrain and a 100th anniversary gold key edition road king...He brought me to the harley shop the other day to show me his latest interest...fat bob in vivid black(flat black) with mags and dual headlights...it was pimp as hell and has one hell of an attitude:fact

My dads had like 20 something harleys some over half were new and they others we built/restored...once they are fixed proper they seem to be just as reliable and maintenece free as most other bikes

Do you think they are worth the almost $20 g;s they want for them?
I only paid $23,000 for my new 4 door wrangler.

Here's a better spend in my opinion for that much money. May I suggest the Kwak 1400GTR?

I had the pleasure of ridding one of these the other week and let me tell you, I'm a 29yr old, R1 riding, trackday loving, wheelie pulling bike shop owner so I get to ride pretty much everything out there but I was seriously impressed with one of these...

Here's a quick run-down of features:

1352cc, 153bhp engine with variable valve timing and 103lb.ft @ 6200rpm
Tetralever multi-linked swingarm with integrated shaft drive (I never noticed it)
ZX-10R derived radial brakes with ABS and 310mm wavy discs (stopped like a bastid)
Aluminium monocoque frame, 20% stiffer than the ZZR1400 frame it was based on
Full ram-air system with resonators to reduce noise
Real-time and overall MPG and range calculator
Stepless, elctrically adjustable screen with push-button control
22-litre fuel tank, extending below seat for mass centralisation
KIPASS key-less starting transponder with immobiliser (damn freaky, keep the key in your pocket and press the button)
Sculpted high-density, non-compressing foam seat for distance comfort
Multi-purpose 12v power plug with 70w capacity
Back-torque limiting slipper clutch and 10mph-rated overdrive top gear
Aerodynamically integrated panniers, each with 20kg luggage carrying capacity
Hydraulic remote-control preload adjuster (can be adjusted on the move)
Wireless tyre-pressure monitoring system with computer control (awesome feature imho)

Dunno what they are Stateside but they're ÂŁ10,995 UK.

Get a ride...:thumbup

$20,000? They're $13,900 retail for the "A" model and you can find them for $12,500 OTD if you hunt around. I bought mine used ('03) with 8000mi. for $8000 and now have over 20,000 with not 1 problem.

:confused

$13,899 for the standard FJR
$15,699 for the electronic shift FJR

Everyone I've talked to said that the FJR's are worth every penny.

Apparantly $12,899 MRSP for the 1400GTR. It's called a Concours 14 in the US.

I've ridden plenty of FJR's but only one of these. Hands down the 1400GTR, sorry Concours does it for me. Better handling and gadgets galore! :boobies

Yeah that whole unpredictability and big dipshit thing is quite out-dated. I have a 78 frame with a 73 ironhead in it and it is a trusting bike. Not to mention my dad rides it to work with a tie, dress shoes, and them funny lookin checkered socks.

They Are!....btw- KAWI's aren't proven yet! Heard of a couple rearend problems with bad results!

True... Kwak don't exactly have much of a history of unreliable bikes of late though do they? Yam's can't quite claim that status recently.

I'm not trying to defend Kwak vs. Yam or any other manufacturer come to that. I was just so blown away by the Kwak that I thought it worthy of a mention. :beer

Wife and I are looking at these. Nice bikes and some really cool accessories.
Definitely a very nice touring bike. I saw one out at a defensive riding track day, and the guy was damn near scraping with a passenger.

For sport touring, I'm going with an FJR. If I ever got into ADV riding, it'd be an R1200 GS Adventure Only deciding factor is the wife. :sing:

Currently, I'm more than happy with the three bikes I have for my wife, son and myself. They're dirt bikes, but gets us all out and riding together. :thumbup

Haven't ridden an 1400 yet, so holding opinion until I do. But, IMO they're fugly from the front. Personally for me, I think a bike should be pretty basic. I'm not into all the gadgets that a Gold Wing, or many others have. the FJR has a decent blend, and I like them. Although, I'd still prefer to shift manually instead of the electronic transmission so I'd get an "A" model.

Definitely worthwhile mentioning. I talked to a guy at the gas station last night who was out on a rebuilt '99 ZX1100. Great looking bike, and he said that he prefers the riding position on that compared to the 1400 though.

Yeah they all have their quirks, but the FJR's been around for a few years. Kinda like the BUSA. Kawi- I'd wait a year for them to iron things out! Definately a nice bike though! Check out the link...

True, although I dodn't think they're butt-ugly. The gadgets for me were, while not all necessary, very worthwhile having. You expect a large engine to be as grunty as both the FJR and the Kwak are, but the handling was exceptional for such a large bike. I've always thought feedback suffered on big bikes like GoldWings, Pan Euros and also FJR's. I was amazed at the feedback on the Kwak's front end while still being plush.

The riding position is gonna alter rider-to-rider like it does on any bike. If anyone does get the opportunity to ride both the FJR and the 1400, they are both excellent bikes for their purpose but the Kwak edges it out considerably when the pace shifts up.

Not bashing anyone's choice of bike, you all are lucky to own the bikes you do :thumbup

Yeah, she's looking for something more like .....a car:sing:
:lol :lol

No, not really. While she'd want to make a cross country trip in a car (primarily due to medical condition), she's more than willing to do day trips on a bike. She used to ride for a couple of years herself, and she now rides trails occasionally.

Our goal is short, weekend trips and maybe an eventual cross-country. Wife really likes that BMW.
