I had an overjetted zx7r that did the same thing if I hit the shift just before the limiter
any one behind got to see a fire.
 
so if i wanted to make my r1 shoot flames all i really need is a full akra system or will a slip on due and then run rich(does that mean use the most expensive gas lol)
wow!:dundun: make sure you change your blinker fluid with some high octane 15-45wt. they usually sell it at any local automotive store.

okay... number one whats the point with you and shooting flames??? 2 no you dont need to use expensive gas... "rich" means that there is more Fuel than oxygen in the FA mixture in the cylinders... you change this by simply using a pcIII... if you have one and have it tuned dont mess with it you will mess your A-F ratio up... i would personally not worry about it, and yess you have to remove the cat to do this, mine has done it a few times with the AR baffles and gutted cat beasue it was running rich... also does it when lean as well... goodluck.
 
the best way is to load up the low end(carbs, or maps)really rich, and when you close the throttle from a top end run, it will sustain a flame for quite a while. very usfull on race bike as it smoothes out the off/on throttle jerks. mostly seen on cars and bikes as entering a corner.
 
Just some simple education from a Mechanic

Ok the reason youre getting flames.
The akra exhaust flows better then stock FACT.
When the rev limiter hits it cuts spark to opposing cylinders but does not cut fuel.FACT

Common engine knowledge is if at 14,000 RPM you cut spark to a cylinder the fuel will get spent to the exhaust.Hold the limiter for a second or 2,or miss a shift a good amount of fuel will make it into the exhaust.The heat will cause it to fire when it hits oxygen at the end of the pipes.FACT
Now add to the fact if you have carbs and running rich.Or the older FI system that doesnt have an O2 sensor.
But the new O2 sensor systems will not run rich because of a slip on and y pipe.
That is the whole point of an O2 sensor it automatically sends a signal when the fuel is rich or lean and instantly adjusts the A/F ratio.
The problem we have adding a slip on in todays FI systems is symply Flow.The factory computer reads to much flow and therefore adjusts the FI to compensate for a problem causing the same type of bog you would get from a carb system.
That is why you have to add a computer and map it.

I have built several automitive Fi systems and worked on some Top Fuel cars in my time.
as well as being L1 ASE.
It can be alot more detailed then this but this is the basic jist.
The only way an O2 fitted Fi engine can run rich is if there is a problem with the O2 which will set the engine warning light on.
