I just got my HID kit for my 2001 R1 from starrotors and I am wondering if it is possible (or safe) to have it wired so that both of my lights are on when I have just my low beam on. I did not get the full wiring harness that went from the lights to the battery with this kit. Would I need to go this route to do this?

Also, has anyone recived a starrotors HID kit that required you to build the connector that attaches to the stock wiring harness? I am having some trouble getting it figured out. I may have to add pictures later. I have a red wire with a spade connector, a black wire with a spade connector, and a black bare wire. I have this for both sides. Any help would be appreciated.

before I can go plugging these wires into my bike I need to know which one does which. I have three seperate wires for highbeam, lowbeam, and ground. I'm not about to go screwing up these lights by just plugging them in anywhere. I know what wire is what on my bike, but i don't know what they are on the HID kit.

maybe it's a canadian thing? I would love to have both lights going at once!

I understand now how to get the HID's working, I just figured when I bought the kit it would be plug and play. One thing I don't get it why there is one bare wire, and why it doesn't have a spade connector. If this is actually the ground then would it be ok just to ground it through the stock wiring harness or does it need to be grounded somewhere else due to the HIDs power usage?

Oh Yamahog you are going to be sick of me lol.

It doesn't answer my question though. I have two wires that can be plugged into my harness, and one bare wire without anything on it. The H4 bulb is wired:

------------Low beam
Ground ----------------- High beam

I can move the two wires with the spade connectors around all I want, but I still need to know what I am supposed to do with the bare wire. Is it the ground? Am I supposed to add my own spade connector? Am I supposed to add an eyelet and attach it somewhere else?

I have been e-mailing starrotors but they can't tell me either:(

I'm not sick of you .... yet NOOB :lol The bare wire is a ground. I would suggest attaching it to a ground like the frame, etc. I have added several electrical things to bikes over the years, and I always know a good solid gound is paramount to success. Just ground the bare wire, and attach other 2 wires in either direction. If they work backwards then reverse them. You are not going to blow anything.

PS - Make sure the ground is nice and solid like I said before. The wife just told me one of the HID's was out on her Escalade, and a quick check proved to be a bad ground.

perfect, thanks I'll give it a try. But I have to ask, why is the ground wire crimped to the spade connector with another wire on one end, but then I have to attach it to the bike on the other?

I am not sure what you are saying, but I know that a bare wire is always the ground :dunno Did the kit come with any directions?

I'll have to take a picture, because it is really odd. basically two black wires are crimped into this spade connector. One of the wires goes to the ballast, the other is about 5 inches long, and is bare. I don't understand what it is supposed to be, and that's why it's been such a problem for me.

Perhaps, the harness plug takes the ground from wiring harness and extends it so you can add a ground. :dunno

I thought of that as well. I am still waiting to hear back from starrotors but I don't think that they can tell me anything either. Did everyone elses H4 kit come with three wires and not two?

Turns out mine were actually single filament, I assumed an H4 replacement was going to have two. They are on their way back now and I am supposed to be getting a 100% refund (good of them!). I am getting a new kit from A&R now.

Yes, the HID bulbs had a little tin half sheild sot of thing.
