Hey guys, I've read some posts here about this but I wanted some fresh opinions that are answers to my exact question so I figured I'd make my own post.

I currently have a 2005 R6 which I've been riding since Dec of 2004. I've put a good amount of miles on it and many of those in the twisties around my area. I've been down once during that time and managed to get back on but have never really returned to as aggressive as a riding style as before the wreck although I still love riding and the twisties.

I'm looking to get a new bike and have been looking at the R1 now that I have some experience under my belt. My 2005 R6 had some performance mods on it to give it a bit of a boost but from what I hear it is nothing when compared to a 1000cc.

My main concern is while street riding is inevitable for me I do love the twisties and do not want to either lose a lot of my ability to handle them quickly or get my self killed. Because of this I have also began looking at the new R6 since I've heard amazing things about its track prowess (although I'm not sure if I'll ever have the time/ability to get to track days).

Just looking for some thoughts on the matter. Sorry for the essay.

Anyone have an experience with switching they can share with me? It would be a big help when making my decision.
I had a fzr 600 before my r1....more power ...more power is all I got to say.. the 600 was more agile in turns and obviosly a smaler bike from just sitting on it .....I think it is a great upgrade....dealer won't let yiou test one I don' t think but I jyou should have no problem...

i had an 06 R6. got stolen. i now ride an 08 R1.

get the 08. you will love it. as long as you can be easy with that right hand till you get some miles under your belt you will be fine

I guess my first question is, is there something wrong with your current bike? Do you have to get something, or do you WANT to get something?

Without knowing your riding history I say you go get another 6.

The comment about not being as aggresive anymore since you've been down... What do you hope to achieve by getting an R1 if you are not riding your six the way it was meant to be ridden?

If it's purely asthetics then by all means go to the 1, but if you're looking to become a better rider; smaller tends to be better. Again no riding history so this is my .02

Cheers!

Well I guess what I mean about less aggressive is that I was out-riding my skill level at that point, especially for the street. I still ride aggressive and lean over as far as I fear is reasonable on the street. By most standards I would feel that my riding style is still aggressive.

What attracts me to the R1 is having more power available for day to day riding and also when coming out of a turn.

There is nothing really wrong with my current bike, I just was looking at the R1 and have the opportunity to make the move at this point. As I said my only concern was not being able to take the turns like I used to. I know there will be a learning curve on the new bike and that is completely fine.

Thanks everyone for the responses so far, very good input and extremely helpful.

I guess another good question is, How agile is the R1? I know it will be less so than my 05 R6 but am I going to be having a lot of trouble trying to position it on turn entry etc? How much heavier does it really feel in the curves?
