I'm planing on jumping or like u say it " graduate" from the R6 class to the all mighty R1. By the way I am not a new rider I've been riding and racing my R6 for the past 6 years with 40k miles under my belt, so it is time for me to graduate. My question is to all u experinced R1 riders is that which R1 is best for me and keep in mind all I care about is handeling cause I know both bikes got alot of power for me. I want something to be close in handeling to my 99 R6 and I have a deal on an 06 R1 but if the 07 is way better handeling then please let me know and I'll go for the 07, thanx guys:fork

Go with the 07.

as far as handling goes you cant really go wrong with ether the 06 or 07 either way the biggest difference between the 06 and 07 is the ycci and the varible tract intake system fly by wire other than those things its just small differences as far as handling goes i dont think there would enough to notice if any at all

thanx for ur reply, this is my thing I have an 06 R1 that has 500 miles on it Raven and 07 R1 that has 6k miles on it and both I can get 4 $7k so wich one should I go for and again handeling is a major major issue to me, thanx

500 miles on an 06 seem suspiciously low to me. Are you sure that is accurate? If so, I'd get the 06. I like that body style better than the 07 and the handling is virtually the same.

I've owned the 04-06 and now have an 07. They handle about the same, except the older ones are 10-15 pounds lighter (and yes, you'll probably notice the difference), while the newer ones are stiffer front and back. And the new ones have the slipper clutch. My advice: get the one that tugs on your heart more.

the problem is that they both tug on my heart but the thing is that if they both handel the same exact thig( cause I rode my boy's 07 R1 and it handeled like my 99 R6 but I never riden an 06 to tell the diffirence) I would love to by the bike with less miles cause I put 100 miles+ a day on the bike in the spring and sumer, but again the handeling is the most important thing I need to pick the bike that I can ride it in turns and corners the same way I rode my 99 R6 but ofcourse with way less throttle.

If you want handling, especially for the track if you race the bikes, stick with the R6. Find a 07/8 r6 and you could even apply for contingency money then.

Ahh, well that explains it then. Ya, if it's the on/off ramps that you are looking for, defiantly the 07 R1.

07 has more midrange & top end + stronger motor...suspension a bit stiffer, and slipper clutch...

the 06 is a great handling bike, more power than you will ever need....

07/08 is a little meaner looking, 04-06 a bit sleeker...07/08 is the best looking model i think but that's cause i own one and my friend has an 06 and my bike is noticeably a bit stronger....

I prefer the 06..its throttle feels more "connected" to the tire...plus the swing arm is sleeker looking IMHO the 07 fairing flows air a bit better though......500 miles on an 06? I'd check into it..make sure the speedo wasn't swapped out from a wreck or something...look for damage...

The 07-08 are just a little better bike. There is nothing wrong with the 2006 but keep in mind that its 2004 technology just can't keep up with the new ones.

Keep up? :lol :lol

thanx to all, u were very helpfull and knowlledgable. If u got more comments or advice please keep um comen, again handeling is the main issue and not all this ycci and ycct and also the 5500 rpm lag of the throttle on the 07. If u guys think that I can take a turn the same way or very close to taking it with my 99 R6 useing the 07 or the 06 ur answer will make me decide right away, thanx again.
